Cleo and her cute kittens

A car arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue from Ponemah with a mom cat and litter of four kittens in a crate sitting on an old rain-soaked pillow. The smallest kitten weighed only 11 oz. while the other three all weighed 1 lb 5 oz. Karen didn't know just how old the kittens were, but they were hungry. She gave them formula by syringe and put kibble, water, and canned food in their cage.

Karen was particularly concerned about that tiny kitten, so she was glad to send the family off in just two days to foster care with ACT V. I decided to step out of my hiatus from fostering to try to help with group, so I met the transport and brought Eddy the pup and the cat family to ACT V.

Since Eddy seemed near death from dehydration and anemia, so he got immediate attention. I had some time to meet the family. Mama cat is a sleek brown tabby named Cleopatra for her long slim body and the beautiful markings on her face. The kittens included Leo, the fluffy tabby boy, Mickey & Minnie, the tuxedo brother and sister twins, and the tiny black sister was called Smidgen.

Smidgen had an echocardiogram on Wednesday which revealed mitral valve stenosis, tricuspid regurgitation, an enlarged right-sided heart and pulmonary hypertension. Obviously bad news.

However, she seems happy and she is eating. She even plays until she gets tuckered out.

On reflection of the recent clinic, I am still amazed at how smooth everything went and how well everyone worked as a team. I wanted to thank you again for all of your hard work. You and the other volunteers literally do the dirty work with a smile on your faces! Without you, we would be lost, hungry, and covered in dog poop!

I was also wondering if you could pass along my thanks to the other volunteers that worked the clinic. We passed around a contact list, but it is not complete by far. I really want to thank all who helped with this clinic! It was a great experience, and I hope we can all work together again.

Another successful transport on August 15

BOLT & BONNIEBARBARA AND BOLTWe had another transport on August 15th. When Barbara emailed me a week ago and offered a transport, I was almost sure we would not have enough animals or placements to have a transport- but I said yes that we would plan one.

NANCY, CAROLYN AND BARBARA BUSYWell, during the week we had many animals come to us, and many rescues and groups stepping forward to take animals including Tricounty Humane Society, All Dog, Pet Haven, TLC rescue, Pet Projects, and Lindsay of Akin Hills Pet Hospital.

ODESSAAs the kennels filled up and Mike and I getting overwhelmed, we also contacted Headwaters and were able to get a placement of 3 dogs, Wes, Odessa and Maggie. Once again Carolyn and Nancy O'Sullivan responded to the need and also took this leg of the journey.

WESWes is such a hoot, and went to Headwaters. He loves to dance on his hind legs!! He was neutered and has all his shots. He came to RLRR after the owner said that they wanted him removed and that he was "mean". Well, Wes was not mean- he was a very friendly dog with a very bright future.

MAGGIEWe met at 10:00 am in Bemidji and I have included some pictures of the transfer of donated food, crates, and they took the "valuable cargo", doggies and kitties on to their destinations. A total of 13 dogs and puppies, and 12 cats and kittens went on the journey. We had one tiny kitten, only a few ounces that went to foster care at Tricounty.

SEVEN TINY KITTENSA very tiny litter of 7 kittens came to the shelter.

TWO KITTENSTwo of the kittens are going to Akin Hills Pet Hospital and the other 5 to Tricounty to a foster home. The kittens came with eye infection and were taken to the vet. We only had the litter of 4 days, but we still have 16 cats at the rescue and more waiting to come in.

These dogs would like to leave Red Lake this weekend!

I am sending pics of several dogs including Odessa, Skipper and Mickey. We have an opportunity to transport this coming weekend if we get any placements.

ODESSA1) Odessa, female spayed, DHPP and Rabies shots, wormed, advantix.
Nice girl, about 9 mo - l year old. Gets along with all the other dogs.

SKIPPER2) Skipper,sheltie mix, poor dear is older dog, and he was left in a crate on the driveway with 8 cats on August 7th at 5:00 A.M. A note
attached: "Daddy wants to shoot Skipper because his teeth are falling out". Skipper went to the clinic , was neutered, got Rabies and DHPP shots, and was wormed. He got brushed out and bathed as well. There are very few places to send poor little Skipper. He is about 20-25 #. He is a little unsure at first, but gains confidence when he realizes you will not hurt him. Gets along well with the other animals at the shelter.

MICKEY3) Mickey, Aussie mix, made it on his own since last fall . Workers at a construction site say Mickey has been hanging around the construction site for a year, and they would feed him. He is a wonderful dog and got neutered at the clinic and got his rabies and DHPP shots. He gets along well with the animals at the shelter.

Could you or your group take any of these animals to foster care? They are all wonderful dogs.
