Congratulations to Act V Rescue & Rehabilitation!

Friends of Flicka, a longtime supporter of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, has announced that the 2010 recipient of the Kodiak Award is Act V Rescue & Rehabilitation of Bloomington, Minnesota. This annual award of $5000 is given to a charitable organization or individual whose efforts on behalf of abused or abandoned animals are deserving of special recognition and aid.

CHAR: WAITING FOR A FOREVER HOMEAct V Rescue & Rehabilitation is a non-profit, foster-based organization dedicated to taking in and thoughtfully re-homing the most unwanted and neglected animals. Since Act V's founders include veterinary professionals, it is uniquely qualified to treat the specific challenges presented by this group of sick, injured and emotionally neglected animals.

TINKERBELL: INJURED FOOT SAVED FROM AMPUTATIONKaren Good of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue received the Kodiak Award in 2008 and she shared the following thoughts about her experiences with Act V:

"Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue, Inc. wishes to commend Dr. Vickie Schulz and Act V Rescue for the selfless service to the injured and suffering Red Lake dogs and cats.

LEROY: SKIN GRAFTS FOLLOWING TUMOR REMOVALIn 2010 Act V took in 36 dogs and 2 cats from Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue of which almost all had severe orthopedic and other major medical needs including broken legs, heartworm, parvo, intestinal blockage, neonatal pups, puppy strangles, and others suffering advanced malnutrition and digestive problems.

We relied on Act V and contacted them whenever sick and injured animals arrive at the shelter. They always responded and never turned us down.

RONNIE BEFORERONNIE AFTERWe are so happy to give this reference to one of the best and kindest vets we know. She has compassion and will even overextend herself to help the animals. Thank you from all the Red Lake animals."

Ronnie & Shawnee

We are so happy here to know that two of the pups, Shawnee and Ronnie (aka Roman) are healed, happy and now adopted through the efforts of Dr.Vickie at Act V.

RONNIERonnie-Roman arrived with mange and an injured leg- it looked like a
scrape- possibly a hit by car. Tony found him and brought him to the shelter, and Vickie took him into her rescue. He was a very scared and hurt little boy on arrival with his head often hung low.

RONNIENow look at him after his transformation with a big smile!!

SHAWNEEShawnee arrived at the shelter when Avis called and said she found this little pup at the Redby garbage dump. Shawnee was sick on arrival, vomiting and it appeared he may be a victim of parvo. Shawnee was put in the isolation pen and we just happened to have a transport in the morning. Well when Dr. Vickie was contacted, she said,"Send him".

Now Shawnee is also healed, happy and adopted.

Thank you to Act V and the faithful transporters for saving him!

Maestro & Ronnie: Two injured pups to Act V

I found a little 11-pound chihuahua male, I named Maestro, staggering in a parking lot in Red Lake yesterday, and found he was injured with 2 wounds on right torso and one on the left. Cause unknown: dog attack, stabbed, or shot?

He was taken to local vet and they gave long-acting antibiotic shot and he is on rimadyl for pain management. The vet thinks the attack happened about 3 days ago.

Today maestro is eating and drinking. He is walking around and much better today.

The good news is that Dr. Vickie of Act V has stepped up to take this little fellow. He will hopefully leave the shelter with a few other animals on October 11th or 12th with a transport by Barbie Olson.

Dr. Vickie is also taking Ronnie, a pup with a possible broken leg.

Act V has been a great partner for the injured Red Lake animals; they take many injured and sick animals that come in at times other than the clinics.

Peace- Karen
