Phoenix is flourishing

Karen and many Red Lake Rosie's Rescue volunteers first met Phoenix as a tiny pup when he was brought into a clinic last year.

He had been found in the woods and the Red Lake family that found him planned to keep him. Sadly, this spring Karen got a call that he needed help. He had apparently been hit by a car and was very thin and injured.

Red Lake Rosie's took him in and then sent him to Act V Rescue & Rehabilitation for care of his medical issues, and finally Pet Haven provided a foster home for him.

Three rescues willing to work together to help this one dog is a wonderful thing, not just for Phoenix, but as an example of how rescues can maximize their resources and accomplishments through cooperation.

UPDATE FROM MARILOU OF PETHAVEN:
Phoenix wanted me to send this photo to all of you who were a part of his rescue ... i got to hang out with him at the adoption event today. He is doing great and made lots of new friends at the adoption event ... there is a whole lot of puppy in this boy!! He is doing so well and it just warms my heart to see the puppy spirit in him shining brightly again! Thanks again for all you did for this sweet boy ;-) You all played a big part in his rescue!! ;-)

UPDATE ON OTIS FROM HIS PET HAVEN FOSTER HOME:

Phoenix (formerly Otis) continues to do great in his foster home. Here are photos when we went to see Dr. Vicki to get his splint changed.

Phoenix has apparently found his voice and now likes to howl ... in the words of his foster "His howl is great- it starts off as a loon and then progresses into a bull elephant. Yes, we have a zoo here!!"

He is such a sweetheart and is winning the hearts of everyone he meets ;-)

Dogs in distress: Otis & Sandy

On March 29th in the afternoon we got a call at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue that a dog was in distress in Red Lake, apparently had swallowed chicken bones and rib bones. Geri and Karen responded to pick up the little brindle pitbull Sandy and take her to the vet in Gonvick. Exploratory surgery was completed and she was to spend the next few days at the vet.

OTISLater that evening, we got a second call that another dog was in distress. This time it was Otis, whom we had met at the May, 2010 clinic and had seen last in October. Geri and Karen once again went to Red Lake and got Otis, who was surrendered by the owner, and took him to Gonvick late that night where the vet saw him and held him overnight for full assessment in the morning.

It had been one of those days, and we hoped that both Sandy and Otis would improve. We were very tired that night, but felt good about doing the right thing.

Otis survived and a team of very good people come together to pay his $460 vet bill. Then he was transported to Dr. Vickie in the metro for furter orthopedic and medical care and on to a foster home through a rescue there.

To our sorrow little Sandy died 3 days later in spite of the vet's efforts. Ironically, Sandy died at the vet on the same day Otis got his ride out in a new BMW.

Thank you for supporting RLRR as you are making a big difference here. The medical costs add up so quickly, we're always in need of donations, but we are so thankful that we have friends all over who are willing to help animals in distress in Red Lake, so we can respond to the needs. We are sad for Sandy, but have so much hope for Otis.

Guy gets girl, and a new family, too

Hi Karen,
Here is Guy with his new family! His name is now Otis and his sister there is also a Red Lake Puppy from 2008--she was Cortny when she came here, and her name is now Prudence.

PRUDENCE & OTIS AND FAMILYD&J are wonderful people! They came to one of our Meet & Greets--not to get their next dog, but to get food for the dog they have.
Prudence is good with other dogs, but is usually a bit overbearing. So when she took right to Guy with no issues of dominace, they knew he was their next dog.

GUY/OTISGuy is having a wonderful life. He is pretty much J's new buddy.
He loves truck rides with John and loves his new family. He gets to jump in the pool to get all wet. He and Prudence take turns at top dog--but always get along and are inseparable!

J~ says they could not asked for a couple of better dogs!

Otis revisits

Otis a small white shep was found in the woods far from civilization by one of the DNR workers. This little boy was hungry and dehydrated.


He brought the little guy home and his daughter Sarah brought Otis to the MN Snap clinic in May. He was strikingly beautiful and unique -- pure white with very light eyes.

Laura took a great interest in him and gave him lots of tlc while he was at the clinic. He had a bout with stomach issues the following week, but now is doing very well.

Sarah and her sister brought Otis and the cat to visit us at the clinic to say "thank you" for all the great work the clinic does.

Many of the Red Lake residents are appreciative of the many hours put in by vets and volunteers to help the Red Lake animals.
