FROM PET HAVEN DOG BLOG:
Jackie is a gorgeous 2 year old Rottweiler. It is not often we get purebred dogs into our rescue program. Jackie weighs in at 93lbs and is the perfect weight for his breed.
He gets along with other dogs and loves people. He is very smart and eager to please. A fenced yard will make Jackie's life even more comfortable, so he can run fast and free and still stay safe.
If Jackie sounds like the dog for your family please email dogs@pethavenmn.org. He is waiting to hear from you.

Bo/Frankie is ready for a new home at last
Check out the photos from when Bo was originally transported from Red Lake Rosie's and compare them to the handsome boy he is today!
FRANKIE'S POST ON PETFINDER FOR ALL DOG RESCUE:
Frankie is a 37-lb pit bull mix who is around 1.5 years old. He was surrendered to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue by the people he trusted to care for him a full week after being critically injured by other dogs. His left ear was nearly torn off, his head was ripped open, and his body was covered in bite wounds. He had received no veterinary care during that week and couldn't stand without help. When called, the volunteers at the shelter brought this little guy, who was near death, to a vet where he finally received the care he needed. Several days later, he made his way to All Dog Rescue. Though he had nearly lost his life and was in great pain, he was sweet and loving from the day he arrived in his foster home.
Because Frankie was so young at the time he was attacked, his wounds healed quickly. But, it became obvious he was having problems using his rear legs. X-rays showed severe dysplasia in both hips. On top of everything he had been through, Frankie needed surgery to fix this congenital problem. Surgery was performed on his right hip last November and his left hip has now been fixed, as well. Frankie is breezing through the recovery from his second surgery and will soon be ready to live the carefree and painless life he deserves.
Frankie loves walks, playing fetch, running, playing fetch, trips to the dog park, and playing fetch. He also loves to play fetch. He wants to make every person he meets his best friend. He is currently living with two small dogs and a cat. He ignores the cat, likes the dogs, but prefers dogs that will wrestle! At his young age, he still has a lot of puppy in him and will find ways to entertain himself if bored. So, he's being crated when his foster mom is not home.
Frankie is unbelievably attentive. He seems to know every move his foster mom is going to make before she does. He's been off-leash when out of an urban area and at a dog park. He stays within sight, frequently looks back to check in, and comes when called. He knows the commands "sit", "wait", "come", and is learning "down". He walks best on a leash when wearing a Gentle Leader. He is housetrained and sleeps under the covers at night by his foster mom's feet.
Frankie has a lot of energy and needs a home that will give him daily exercise. In return, he will give his home a lot of love.

Ahnung has qualified as a hospice volunteer.
UPDATE FROM MARILOU OF PET HAVEN ABOUT HER RED LAKE DOG AHNUNG:
Okay ... so i'm a proud mama ... how can I not be?? :)
Ahnung is featured in Allina Hospice's April volunteer newsletter ...
she loved going with me to our last day of hospice training on friday
and having her photo taken for her badge.
Read all about it on Ahnung's blog:
Official Allina hospice volunteer!
Mom just completed 3 days of training through Allina Home and Community Services. She said it was the best training and she learned so much!! Way to go mom for making it through the training ... and today, on the last day, I got to go with her because they needed to take my picture for my own badge. How cool is that?? :) And on top of it all I got lots and lots of hugs from all the other volunteers and Allina staff.
Mom was really proud of me. She kept telling me how good I was ... not sure what the big deal is. Aren't I always good??? Anyway, I slept most of the time right by her side. Occasionally the other volunteers came by to say hi and gave me pats and hugs and I also got some belly rubs ... nice long belly rubs! I showed them that I know how to shake and "high five" ...
so mom graduated from the training today and we both got our badges!! We also got our first assignment and I'm really excited about it. Mom is going to call the family first thing next week and set up a time when we can start visiting ... i'm going to have a new friend now ... this is exciting!!
Here are some photos from today ... if you're a therapy dog or know someone who's a therapy dog i hope you'll also consider volunteering with hospice. Yes, you can email me at ahnung.star@gmail.com.
and if you want to learn more about the hospice training from mom's perspective, she wrote about it on her blog.

Clarence is gonna need a new sweater!
Remember darling little Clarence in his special Vikings sweater? Well, as puppies tend to do, he has grown -- a lot -- and is probably still growing! We received an update from his new family:
CLARENCE BEFOREJust wanted to send an update on our wonderful Red Lake puppy, Clarence!
Clarence is doing wonderfully and growing into a beautiful dog. He now lives in St. Paul and has a fenced in yard to run and explore. Clarence has two kitty brothers, Jasper and Mauser, who he loves to chase and play with. He is up to 50 lbs and still growing, we’re always wondering how big he is going to get!
Clarence has a magnetic personality and charms everyone he meets. He loves to go on walks, and will lay down and wait patiently to meet a new dog or kid. Everyone is always so curious about what kind of dog he is.
Thanks so much to those who played a part in Clarence’s rescue. He is truly a one in a million dog, and we are so lucky to have him as part of our family!

HSUS offers reward in Red Lake dog's death
PRESS RELEASE (DISTURBING PHOTO INCLUDED BELOW):
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Humane Society of the United States Offers Reward in Dog's Death on Red Lake Indian Reservation
(May 21, 2010) - The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for beating a young German shepherd dog to death on Red Lake Indian Reservation.
The Case: The Red Lake Police Department gives the following account:
Karen Good, the director of Red Lake Rosie's Animal Shelter, received a tip that a young German shepherd had been beaten to death and hanged on the Red Lake Reservation in Northern Minnesota. On May 1, the body of the dog was found on the Redby Children's playground.
Animal Cruelty: Getting the serious attention of law enforcement, prosecutors and the community in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the community. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and all manner of other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault.
"This was a horrible death for this defenseless animal, and we hope our reward will help find those who are responsible for this heinous crime,"
said Howard Goldman, The HSUS' Minnesota senior state director.
The Investigators: Red Lake Police Chief Capt. Red Cloud is investigating. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Capt. Red Cloud at 218-679-3313.
Resources: The HSUS Animal Cruelty Campaign raises public awareness and educates communities about the connection between animal cruelty and human violence while providing a variety of resources to law enforcement agencies, social work professionals, educators, legislators and families. The HSUS offers rewards in animal cruelty cases across the country and works to strengthen laws against animal cruelty. Donations needed for dog pierced with arrow
Carol Priest and Polly McMaster found this dog with an arrow through him in the village of Red Lake on Friday (May 21). Carol named him King for his stamina and regal head.
Carol carefully transported King to the Bemidji Veterinarian Hospital and they did surgery to remove the arrow which amazingly did not hit any bone or organs.
Later that afternoon, he was out of surgery and coming around. He will have a drainage tube through the length of the wound for about a week to let any infection come out. That will be secured with a couple of stitches at each end, and can be removed at home or at the vet. They are saving the arrow for us.
By Saturday, King had been moved to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in Karen's care.
Once again, Red Lake Rosie's is in need of donations for emergency medical care. King's bill is $373.00 so far. Any additional money received will help create a special fund for emergency vet bills.
These situations come up regularly and we have no source of funds for that in our budget. Most of our grant money is specifically for neuter/spay and vaccinations.
Thank you all for your coninued support!

Plain Jane to Mosaics' Millie
FROM RESCUE BUDDY BOARDING BLOG:
Velvet Bear Mosaics welcomed a new Pet Haven foster dog into their home/studio.Here is what they had to say about Millie.
JANE AT RED LAKE ROSIE'S RESCUE"We picked up Millie from the Red Lake Transport on Sunday. Her original name was Jane but we needed to change it as we have a german shepherd named Jayne. Very shy and unsure we got her into the car and off we went. She rode great in the car. Good girl!
When we got home we introduced her to our dogs one at a time. They all did well. You could see that our dogs were thinking "oh, another dog. Ok when's dinner?" New name for this girl, we came up with Millie.
MILLIEShe was not familiar with stairs so we worked on that first. My daughter Elanor is a pro at getting new dogs used to them, and within the day Millie was up and down, no problems. Millie is 8 months old and 30 lbs and all puppy. We are working on the potty training and she already knows to go in her crate for bedtime.
As her personality unfolds I will post. So far she is sweet and is very curious about all and any activity. We have a vet appointment today and then hopefully a bath."
If you would like more information please email dogs@pethavenmn.org.
And check out Velvet Bear Mosaics for creative personalized leash holders.

Johnny's home
Johnny was a tiny mangy pup when he first came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue at the November 2009 clinic. We've received an update from his new home:
CARLEY AND JOHNNY IN NOV 09UPDATE:
Thought I would just check in with you to let you know how Johnny is doing and to send you a few pictures!
Johnny is a very busy boy, he currently attends Doggy Camp once per week and has just started obedience training. He runs every morning for a few miles and most evenings gets another walk.
He goes most places with us and loves spending time with his big sister Maggie the lab and little elderly brother Murray. He also has two boxer cousins about a mile away that we go to visit in which it becomes one big lick fest after their chasing and wrestling matches end.
Johnny rules all leather furniture in our house, including the ottoman/coffee table!! The family room is pretty much his, but as you will see in a couple of the pictures, he shares!
Thank you for choosing us for Johnny; we are so thankful you did!

Bronson thanks you!
Bronson, our recent amputee, is one happy dog and wants to say thank you to all the kind people who pledged money to help pay his vet bill!
BRONSONAlso, thanks to Animal Ark for their kindness in taking Bronson for his aftercare and adoption. What a great dog he is!
BRONSONWhat started out to be a transport to get Bronson out to fostercare, turned into a transport to get 14 dogs and puppies out to potential forever homes.
TRANSPORT TEAMKaren, Carol, and her daughter brought animals to Bemidji and met the O'Sullivans who went on with the dogs and puppies to Motley where they met DeeDee who took the last leg to the metro area with Bronson trying to snuggle onto her lap.
TRANSPORT TEAM
TOM'S T-SHIRTHere are some pictures of the group. We especially liked Tom O'Sullivan's tee shirt he wore for the occasion.
JANNAJanna was found on the highway in the middle of nowhere. Waldo came from the Bemidji Pound scheduled to be euthanized. Both of them were transported to TriCounty.
BRADY & DUSTYDUSTYBRADYBrady and Dusty were 2 feral pups tamed by Carol and her family and taken by All Dog Rescue.
ARETHAARETHAAretha, a little pit bull lab mix, got a special placement with All Dog Rescue. We found her at the garbage dump in March and really had no place to take her because of her breed. She was a very sweet dog and I'm so glad she is getting a chance.
GARVINGARVINGarvin was a lonely little shep pup who got to go to TLC where we found out he was happy to join 3 other puppies.
FIVE PUPSFIVE PUPSA litter of 5 unwanted pups arrived the night before the transport and thankfully went to Tricounty for adoption.
LACEYLacey was a beautiful juvenile shepherd found as a stray with a tight collar. She had obviously been on a chain all her life. Her fur was all mottled with metal around her neck which is evidence of long-term chaining. We are hoping that will never happen to her again. She also went to Tricounty.
Thanks to everyone who made these rescues possible!
