Best makeover candidate: Bobo!!

Bobo has to be one of the greatest makeovers of 2012!

BOBO BEFOREHe came in last winter a starving mangey mess, but he was so beautiful inside.

It is so great to see it now on the outside!

He went to ARVSS after spending a few weeks at RLRR shelter. Now look at this lovely swan!

RLRR wants to thank ARVSS so much for helping BoBo- They take puppies and dogs with severe mange and other health issues. Today it was a great reward to see how BoBo has a great life!

It took us a really long time--but we finally found the right family for Bobo! They are a family with three older children (14-19) and they are very active. They will include Bobo in all their plans!!! We are all so happy for him. Susie

Friends visit

It was a nice surprise to have Nancy Blanck and her two sons Ryan and Harrison vist RLRR shelter on July 28th. As usual they brought a load of food and helped take care of the animals.

It was Harrison's first visit and it was great to make another RLRR friend.

Ryan did lots of mowing, and Nancy took good care of the cats.
Harrison did a fine job with the dogs and puppies.

Nancy brought a great supper which we all enjoyed.

TABITHAFREDDIEThey left the next morning, and took with them 2 cats, Freddie and Tabitha enroute to Feline Rescue.

Thank you so much for the great time and we look forward to another visit anytime.

Youth Works returns!

Two great groups from Youth Works made a visit to Red Lake Rosie's on July 16-18. The groups came from the Minneapolis area and did lots of work at the shelter.

They cleaned out the straw shed and got it all prepared for the coming winter's straw- this was one of the main jobs. Groups spent the next few days brushing and clearing out areas around the shelter.

Two volunteers cleaned the cathouse and took care of the cats and kittens. The van and pickup went through a much-needed car wash and vacuum.

During the visit, the groups rescued two small kittens found in the parking lot at the Red Lake Elementary School and transported a rescued dog as well.

They named the kittens Johnnie and Georgie Girl and both have since gone to foster care with Pet Haven.

One day they stopped at the Neptune community cemetery and cleaned and mowed it.

We are very impressed with the work that Youth Works has done to improve the environment at the shelter and the clinic this summer. We hope to have them back again next year.

Oscar the kitten

On July 29th, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call from a family in Red Lake. They had found a little kitten, we called Oscar, laying on the middle of a road unable to walk. They were very nice to bring out Oscar that evening. It was a horrible sight to see.

Oscar's tail was torn or cut off half way. His 2 rear legs and left front let were neurologically damaged so he could scoot himself with one front leg. It was enough to make you cry.

The man who found him said "We would like to adopt Oscar if he can get well." I thanked the family for rescuing this little baby off the road and driving all the way to the shelter to get Oscar some help. We do not believe that Oscar was hit by car or attacked by a dog as he had no broken bones or visible wounds other than his tail and his crippled legs.

I set Oscar up in a cage in the cathouse and fed him. He gulped the can of Fancy Feast and had some water, but I knew in my heart there was no hope for this little fellow.

The next morning he went to the vet and they concurred that Oscar would have only one leg and so he crossed the rainbow bridge on July 30th.

Poor little Oscar never had a chance, like so many kittens that are born and then left to die. So many times we see kittens desired for children as toys, and then live a miserable life and die very young -- many times violently. This should not happen. This is one of the examples of how neuter/spay clinics are so important.

Thank you all for supporting clinics and animal rescue. Thank you to the family from Red Lake who had compassion and brought this little boy to the shelter. This was a very difficult one.

Visit to Karen2 and Rosie2

Here is an update on the latest dog named Rosie -- the little Cass Lake stray that Karen2 and Marci rescued and brought to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. She spent two weeks getting spayed, vaccinated, and treated for mange, and then was adopted by Karen2 and is living in Bemidji area.

I went to visit Karen2 and Rosie2 on July 29. Wow! What a transformation!

I brought Rosie a treat bag from Molly's birthday party, as Karen2 was out of town during the party. Rosie is doing awesome! She loves her kennel, she loves her dog house, she loves running free on Karen's acreage.

She is no longer on a leash and explores the wooded area on a regular basis. She loves her people, her toys, the couch, and being outside.

Here are some pictures of Rosie as of today...She is beautiful and very happy in her new home. When she does decide to dig out of the kennel, she waits on the front steps for Karen and Paige to get home (she probably has explored the woods for a while first)!

She loved her new toys, but is so content running in the yard...She is so happy with Karen and Paige. Rosie is doing great!

Molly is 3!!!

Dear Karen-

So much to tell you about! Molly turned 3 the end of July and we celebrated her birthday to the hilt! She had an awesome day and we just had to share her day with you - as if you hadn't rescued her, we wouldn't have her today...She brings constant joy to our lives...

We started with puppy invitations to all her "doggy friends".. We made doggy biscuits and I have some great recipes to share with everyone...We decorated the table with "doggy stuff" and made "doggy treat bags for all Molly's guests"... Below are some recipes for homemade puppy biscuits!

Molly had "playdates" with all her "best doggy buds" on her birthday.
Nova, Monroe, Carma, Maude, & Woofer.

Molly also had playdates with her favorite people: Bev, Travis, Mom, & Dad.

Of course, there were birthday cupcakes, each decorated with a puppy pick! Of course, Molly had one cupcake and just a little ice cream for dessert...

Of course, there were gifts...Molly loves opening her own presents for every occasion...

Molly's supper was "Gracie's Gourmet". At $3.79 a meal, they are for special occasions only, but Molly wolfed that dinner down like it was her last...And they are super healthy...

Her big treat was her "smoked Stittsworth's bone", which Molly gets when she has been a very good girl...

Molly ended her birthday in the "big bed" between her two favorite people, Mom & Dad...She had "doggy" playdates, she played ball, she went swimming, she had treats, she had presents, she had an awesome dinner, she had dessert, she had a big bone, and she had love and attention all day long. Not unlike most days of Molly's life...

Since we rescued Molly (or, Molly rescued us) she has filled our lives with joy and love. She is definitely spoiled, but in a good way; with lots of love, attention, & praise. Molly is not chained in the yard, she is free to roam not one, but two fenced yards. She runs free in the house while we are at work, she sleeps in comfort with pillows, blankets, heat, or air conditioning.. She is not kenneled, she is not tied, she is free of everything that happened to her before she came to us. Molly doesn't have to worry about her safety; she worries about ours...She never goes to bed hungry, hurt, or afraid of what might happen to her next. She is "our baby" and she brings so much joy to our household every single day...

So to everyone that has ever fostered or adopted a "rescue", our hats are off to you. They are not the easiest animals to acclimate to society, but with enough love, anything is possible. Our Molly has changed our lives....And we feel it is an honor and a privilege to have changed hers.
