Pinkie Louisa is healed and home!

Louisa, now Pinkie, was a gift from Leech Lake Legacy in August, 2014.

She was malnourished, suffering from rickets and afflicted with a severe case of demodex mange, but what a lovely personality! While at the Red Lake shelter she was always a happy camper in spite of the misery she suffered with skin sores. It was a joy to have Pinkie at the shelter.

Thankfully, ARVSS (Animal Rescue & Veterinary Support Services) took on this little girl and now not only is she healed, but also got her forever home.  We are so thankful for ARVSS and the many Red Lake animals they have helped with medical care.

UPDATE FROM ARVSS:

I want to give you an update on Louisa (aka Pinkie). She finally beat the demodex mange and was adopted to a couple that patiently waited for her to be healthy :-)

Her new owners said it took a couple of hours but she has made herself right at home and is doing great! I have a bunch of pictures can share w/ you that they have already sent me and she just got adopted on Saturday!

It as a very happy (and sad) day when she went to her new home but we are so proud and happy for her!!!!!

Poor Louisa is a starving little pit-bull puppy with severe demodex mange that arrived at the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue on August 23rd as a transfer from Leech Lake Legacy. She spent only one week at the Red Lake Rosie’s shelter before she was transferred to Susie and Matt at ARVSS (Animal Rescue & Veterinary Support Services).

ARVSS has helped many Red Lake animals with severe medical needs. They have taken one dog that was shot, 2 dogs that were burned, plus many that had heartworm, mange or broken limbs. We really appreciate all that ARVSS does for the Red Lake animals and are thankful we can call on them when we have an especially needy or injured animal.

Severe generalized demodex requires long-term treatment of about 8 weeks. Demodex is not contagious, but is a genetic disease passed on from parents characterized by severe itching, skin lesions, and hair loss. Louisa was basically bald. In spite of all this, Louisa was a dear happy puppy!

UPDATES FROM ARVSS:

Little Pinkie  Louisa came to us with severe mange, no hair, sores and scabs all over her little body. Her bones were not growing right because of her lack of nutrition. Fortunately, the rickets should correct because she is so young and now on a good diet. Poor baby also had a urinary tract infection. So, she is on antibiotics, sentinel-or milbemycin (which is good for demodex and not as toxic as ivermectin) and she gets a wonderful bath to help her skin :-) 

EVERYBODY loves her happy personality and two wonderful vets are giving her lots of care!

RICKETS BOW FRONT LEGS

Pinkie (aka Louisa) three weeks ago (ABOVE) --and Pinkie today (BELOW)! Louisa is doing great! Her hair is coming in and her legs are straightening out. She is eating a ton of food! Everyone who meets her falls in love with her!

Pinky (formerly known as Mittens) is an amazing little guy……with 6 extra toes!! He was found at a dump, with some of his whiskers cut, and a wonderful person rescued him and took him to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. He is now in our home as a foster kitty, but we are starting the process to adopt him!

PINKY AND HER GIRLMy daughter, who is 2, saw him for the first time…and said “His name is Pinky”…so we stuck with it!

PINKY AND HER DOGThe first day he came to our home, the entire family (including Kinzi, our 75lb yellow lab) fell in love with him!!

PINKY'S BLANKIEPinky was in our home for only a few hours, when my husband and 16 year old son came to me and said, “You are not giving this guy away, We are keeping him!“ I was so excited, because I too had fallen in love with the little guy, extra toes and all!!

PINKY'S REPAIRED HIPHowever, the poor little guy had a limp that we noticed right away. When it didn’t get better, we brought him to the doctor, and found out he had a broken hip and would need surgery. He has now had the surgery and is still limping but getting around amazingly well!! Hopefully within the next couple weeks, Pinky will finally be able to live a normal pain free life!

PINKY RESTINGEven with his broken hip, Pinky has been hilarious to watch as he plays with the dogs tail, and chases the toys that my daughter is playing with. He has the most gentle personality I have ever seen in a cat, and I think he is just happy to have found some people who love him.

PINKY AND GIRL CUDDLEHe loves to cuddle, and purrs so loudly that you can hear him across the room! He is only 4 ½ lbs now…but he LOVES to eat!! He sits, with the dog, under my daughters legs at meal time and he even tries to get up on the table for some grazing!
