Red Lake dog makes a move to California!

I was so pleased to get this update about Starling, who was known as Misty at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. What a wonderful life she has after coming to us near death from starvation with her tiny pups.

My husband and I adopted a sweet little pit bull from Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue in December, and, following the internet trail, I see that she was originally rescued by you all in July. Well, we she has moved with us and our other dog to California (we live in the Santa Cruz Mountains, just south of San Francisco), and she's loving her new life. I thought you might all enjoy seeing photos of her now -- we've got them on our family blog.

As you can see, she has put on a good deal of weight -- she's even a little roly poly now - and the vet says she's in great health. She is a bit of a 'fraidy cat, having never been socialized to the world and new people, but she's gradually learning that her new world is safe.

And she is a total sweetheart -- she loves to cuddle more than anything, well, except perhaps for her morning walks, which she REALLY REALLY loves.

We're trying clicker training with her, and as long as we muffle the clicker so she isn't scared by the click sound itself, she learns new tricks eagerly (we just got "spin").

Her general enthusiasm for life has injected a new cheerfulness into our home. We're so grateful to you all for helping her!

Welcome to California, Starling

This is sort of a hodgepodge of photos from our first couple weeks home -- some yard photos, some in front of the TV photos, and some cheese-hunting kitchen photos...

All in all, Starling is adjusting quickly to California, and spends a lot of time "hotdogging" (laying in the sun until panting). It's a totally new environment for her, so there are lots of new smells -- and she spends a lot of time in the salvia in the yard, so she smells like sage most of the time. Which is better than it could be...

Yes, Starling, I am a comfortable piece of furniture...

Turtle is initiating Starling in the art of cheese-hunting... If they wait long enough, delicious mozzarella or cheddar or blue cheese will fall from the sky...

And Starling is making new friends...

And wearing new clothes -- she has a pink jumper, a pink raincoat, and a new pink leather collar.

Lucy Zeebe: Poster child for rescue

Lucy came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in the dark days of mid-December 2009 with her two tiny pups. She was starved and Karen described her as "one of the most abused animals we have seen." Please read the previous post about her to fully appreciate what a happy ending this is.

LUCY BEFORELUCY AFTERLucy and her pups went to foster care with Minnesota Pit Bull Rescue (where she was known at Zeebe) and now all have found homes.

Lucy Z can't stop smiling ear-to-ear and you can see the blur of her white whip tail wagging, too, in some of the photos. I hope this story brightens your day as much as it did mine.

UPDATE FROM MN PITBULL RESCUE:
I have attached some pictures of Zeebe and her pups, Waahbe (now Ivy) and Neebe. All have been adopted!

Zeebe went to a home with a women and her roommate who also has a male mix dog. Zeebe LOVES going to the local dog park and has completed her obedience class at The K9 Coach. She did have to have surgery a few weeks ago to have a lump removed from her foot. That is healing well but its hard to keep her off of it. She is just a ball of energy and likes to be on the go! I am so glad Zeebe has come into our rescue, she has quite the following and everyone loves her!!

WAAHBE & WRIGLEYWaahbe, who is now Ivy, lives with her mom, dad, and her four-legged brother, Wrigley. They reside in Duluth and are very active with the dogs including camping, hiking, and rescue events! They have also fostered numerous dogs for us and Ivy is a great role model for all the foster dogs. Ivy has also completed her obedience class.

MISTY AND FRIENDSYou may remember Misty from RLRR who came in a few months ago; she is currently being fostered there. =) Misty is all the way on the left and Ivy is in the third one in from the left.

NEEBENeebe lives with her mom and dad. She doesn't have any siblings but has a lot of friends. Neebe has completed her obedience class at Doge Spot and also goes to daycare there from time to time.

NEEBE ENJOYS CANOE RIDES AS LONG AS SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO PADDLENeebe is busy girl and likes to go to the cabin. Neebe's family is in the process of starting to foster so hopefully she will have a foster brother soon!

Misty & her pups: Happy & Healthy

MISTY NOWA happy update on Misty the pitbull mama Carol rescued with her six pups.

MISTY & PUPS ONE MONTH AGOThe mama was malnourished and dehydrated on arrival.

She went to MN Pitbull Rescue and look at her and her chubby pups now- happy, healthy and hopeful for the future.

Thank you Carol for making this rescue!! Beautiful pictures of a very happy dog and family! Makes you "misty-eyed" doesn't it?

Transport July 17

We are happy to report that our faithful transport team made another successful transport July 17th to the metro. Karen met Tom in Bemidji who took the animals on to Motley to meet Barbara. Barbara took the load to Tricounty and on to the metro rescues.

We are so thankful to have a shelter to help these animals, friends to transport and provide support, as well as rescues for these great animals to go to on their journey.

TINY TIMTiny Tim was a very small puppy- cute as a button- found at the pow-wow grounds and was surrendered by a concerned citizen. He went to RLRR foster care with Dino.

TONYTony was found wandering in Red Lake hungry and was brought to the shelter where he was neutered and vaccinated. He went on to Tricounty and was adopted already.

MAKITATwo of the special riders were Makita who went to foster care at Tricounty and Misty and her little tribe of 6 puppies that went to Minnesota Pitbull rescue.

MISTY AND HER PUPSCarol Priest made the rescue of Misty and her pups and dropped her off at the vet where I picked her up. She suffered malnourishment and dehydration and was trying to nurse her 6 puppies. The owners said she would not eat.

Poor Misty is a darling pitbull --about 9 months old-- and only a bag of bones. She is so timid, she falls to her belly and crawls as you approach her. She has a big heart, and is a great dog

MISTYShe ate and ate when she arrived here. She had a full bowl of puppy kibble and a can of pedigree both morning and night. In 8 days during her stay she gained 4 pounds and her hair got shiny. She produced massive amounts of milk and was so happy to have the food, water, and safe environment for her and her pups!

She was accepted by Laura of Minnesota Pitbull Rescue who will dearly love this girl. Such a sweet spirit.

And I've already received an update on Misty- the little starving mama pitbull that left!! They just love her- as I knew they would. Also- if you remember Lucy (now called Zeebe) the starving pitbull from last November- she may be getting her forever home!@!

MISTY'S PUPSUPDATE FROM RESCUE:
Misty is doing well! =)

I had her overnight on Saturday and then brought her to her foster home on Sunday morning. She has a whole room for herself and her puppies. There was a laundry basket in the room with clean towels/blankets and she has made a bed out of the basket. It was super cute!

She is a doll, you are right I LOVE her!! =) She may already have an interested party too, (once the pups are 8 weeks of course). I am sure they will come meet her in the next few weeks.

Talk with you soon and again, thank you so much for contacting us about her. And on a side note, Zeebe/Lucy had her meet and greet last night and all went well so as long as the resident dog and Zeebe get along she will have a forever home!
