Kenai gets a lift home

An update on Jewlz--our mangy husky mix from last year that Matt was positively in love with!

Susie of ARVSS

KENAI (fka JEWLZ)Someone got a little tired from her walk. D saves the day. Hard to think we've almost had her for a year.!!

She just had a check up at the vet. Doing well and up to 56.8 lbs. She was like 42 some lbs when we 1st got her last year. The vet said she was at a great weight and we should work at keeping her there.

She loves walking everyday with D around our place but really enjoys when we take her around the lake in Fontana, Wi & gets to meet new people and/or dogs. Wants to play with all of them!!! Just ended up getting a little warmer while out on the walk. Thus the lift from D :-)

She is getting braver about trying to go in the water but if the boats are out they make waves and she doesn't really like the waves.

Hope all is going well with you guys and all the animals there.

Precious Jewelz

FROM SUSIE AT ARVSS:
Wanted to share this with you. I have started to make videos for the rescue to help adopt out dogs. Here is the one I did for Jewlz.

If you watch you will see Edwina in and out :)

There are some shots of the 10 pups--but we actually only have two of them left, and one will probably be adopted late this afternoon :)

Enjoy!!

One-month transformation for Edwina & Jewelz

Edwina and Jewelz were part of a large transport from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. They went to foster homes with ARVSS in Wisconsin and are now up on Petfinder.com ready for adoption. They look heartwarmingly healthy and happy now compared to a month ago!

EDWINA BEFOREEdwina had a very sad story. According to Karen, she was the only survivor of her litter who came here on 7/12/09. The litter of pups was starving and mange-infested already. Then kids in the neighborhood where they lived hung the puppies by the neck and threw stones at them until they all died, except Edwina. A lady got the puppy away from the kids and we got her. The people do not know the kids involved and would give no information. Despite her shockingly tragic circumstances, Edwina is a "hoot". She is such a great pup and has a wonderful "I am happy" attitude. A real doll.

CHECK OUT EDWINA ON PETFINDER.COM

EDWINA AFTERMy name is Edwina. I was born about June 1, 2009. We are thinking I am some kind of Terrier Mix. It does not look like I am going to get too big either, but, since my parentage is unknown, there is no guarantee. Maybe 45-50 lbs.

I am energetic and friendly. I am a good listener and all-around a good dog. I am crate-trained and do great inside the house. My foster family has just started obedience training with me--and I am very smart.

The person(s) that adopt me will need to keep me busy. I need to exercise. A walk or two a day along with a good run in a yard chasing a ball or to a dog park to chase some other dogs would be good.

I love Kids and Cats! I like Kids cuz they can wear me out (and I wear them out)--I like cats cuz they just smell different.

If you would like a happy dog that will brighten your every single day with joy and happiness--please fill out the application so we can meet!

JEWELZ AFTERMy name is Jewlz. I was born about November 1, 2008. I am a Husky/Terrier Mix and I will stay about 50-55 lbs.
I am a very good girl. I am great in my crate and I am housebroken. I love to play. I am very very smart. I have found very creative ways to communicate to my foster family about what I want. I have started obedience training and I learn quickly.

I love other dogs and I really love children. I just got swiped by the foster families cats (guess she did not want to play like a dog)--so we have been making up this week and it is going fine. I will listen the next time a cat says they don't want to play!

The person(s) who adopt me need to keep in mind that I am very intelligent and will require mind-stimulating activities (children and other dogs work well). If you decide to adopt me, I will give you companionship, loyalty and love--I promise!

BIG Transport to clear kennels before August clinic

Greetings! I wanted to share the information on another large 30 animal transport that left RLRR over the weekend. Some animals are in the metro area and others are enroute to ARVSS in Wisconsin.
We want to thank the faithful transporters Tom and Nancy O. who met the RLRR van in Bemidji and took the animals to meet Barbara O. in Motley. Barbara took them on to St. Cloud and into the metro. This great team has often stepped forward to help move the Red Lake animals and we are so thankful for them.

We have had a great influx of animals at the shelter and we are mindful that we have to clear out the kennels as much as we can for the upcoming animal clinic in early August. We are hoping the surrenders and homeless animal numbers decrease but want to be prepared for them.

We sent out 27 dogs/pups and 3 cats/kittens to the following organizations: Tricounty Humane Society; Pet Haven; Pet Projects; Red Lake Rosie's Petfinder Foster homes in Rogers; and ARVSS in Wisconsin, which is a foster-based program where we have sent many animals in the past.

Tricounty Humane Society- St. Cloud
GOLDIERUBYRuby is spayed and has her shots. She is a great gal and we are hopeful that she will be adopted real soon.
PRISCILLAPriscilla, the cat, was surrendered and we sent her to be spayed right away. She is a real nice cat.
PAIR OF KITTENSThese 2 little kittens are lovely and went to Tricounty Humane Society. With the numbers of cats, it is very hard to find foster homes for the cats and kittens. IF YOU THINK YOU COULD FOSTER FOR RLRR, PLEASE FIND MORE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE, www.redlakerosie.org.

ARVSS- Wisconsin
JEWELZMANNYManny came here all skin and bones and has made good weight gains in the past 2 weeks. He is a great little dog, on his way to a real home, and no more starving for him.
BARRYEWING DUCKBarry and Ewing Duck were stray puppies found wandering. They both are great pups and have foster homes now. No more foraging for food and no more homeless status for these boys!
KEYNAKeyna was surrendered with another dog as the owner could not feed the 4 dogs she had. They all have mange. Poor little Keyna had a gash on her face from food competition and has come out of her shell and gained weight already now that she has a good food and water supply.
FELICIASEVEN DWARFS PUPSTHREE MUSKETEERS PUPSPuppies, Puppies. We sent out lots of puppies, and were able to get one of the mamas spayed. We have been told by the owners that they will spay at the August clinic. We hope they do.

A special thank you for the RLRR supporters, transporters, food donors, and receiving groups. All but 5 went to foster care. We wish we could say ALL went to foster care which is our goal.

Sincerely- Karen Good and RLRR

Red Lake residents support RLRR

Tony and Vonnie of Red Lake have been very helpful to RLRR for the past year. They have been rescuing and transporting animals to the shelter on a regular basis and are supplied gas for the trips.

TONY & VONNIETony works for Red Lake Housing and is sent all over the reservation and in his daily travels he sees many dogs and pups in need. He calls one of the RLRR people and then will bring the animal. He has saved over 200 this past year.

We have been very hopeful about the reduction of cases of mange in dogs, but last week Tony and Vonnie brought 6 very mangey animals in three trips to the shelter.

MISTERThey brought 4 puppies on the first trip. These pups came from the Ponemah dump. We have named the larger pup Mister. The three smaller ones are Toto, Tanya and Taneka.

TOTO, TANYA, TANEKAThen a day later they brought a husky we call Jewelz. She happens to be a sister to Rusty the puppy that went to Dino Beuge last winter that had been immersed in motor oil as a treatment for mange. He got sick and was surrendered to us, however Jewelz was not. Now they have decided to surrender her, as her mange continued to worsen.

JEWELZThen a day after that they arrived with a female shep we call Jonnie Cakes, Her bags were large but there were no puppies with her. She is a wonderful dog.

JONNIE CAKESWe want to thank Tony and Vonnie for their dedication in bringing cats and dogs to the shelter. Now all these animals have hope for a brighter future.

Lauren and Mike gave the four mangey pups, Mister, Toto, Tanya, and Teneka, all a special bath when they visited and they took them to foster care with Terresa, RLRR Petfinder foster and manager, and Kate, Caring Hands.

Thank you all who also transport animals out and to the receiving
organizations.
