Emmy - Another Success Story!

Emmy was brought into the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley on July 9, 2011 from Leech Lake. When I took her out of her kennel at Leech Lake to get her prepared for the ride to the Cities, I immediately fell in love with the big brown girl. I quickly discovered her soulful eyes and her very sweet, gentle personality.

EmmyEmmy’s three puppies (Ellie, Elsa and Eddie) were old enough to be weaned but still very much wanted to nurse from their momma. When I closed Emmy in her own kennel for the ride to the Cities, I would swear she gave me a grateful look before she curled up into a ball and fell asleep.

EllieElsaEddieEmmy was a very timid girl and spent some time in a program at AHS specifically designed for shy/fearful dogs. Emmy did very well in the program and was then put up for adoption.

Emmy was on the adoption floor for almost a month where she was passed over again and again until one day last week, Emmy was chosen to be WCCO’s Pet of the Week.

She was featured on WCCO’s Pet of the Week on Friday, August 5. She was adopted the very next day! (Click on the link above to see the video of Emmy's TV debut.)

A big thank you to WCCO for helping Emmy find her forever home and to the Animal Humane Society for their ongoing efforts in helping the dogs on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.

Ellie the lover and her best bud Barney

Ellie is one of several Saint Bernard mix dogs that Red Lake Rosie's has rescued. She is adopted now and we got an update and photo of her with her adoptive brother Barney, the Shar Pei. What a pair!!

ELLIE & BARNEYI got a really cute picture of Ellie and Barney together and wanted to share. They are good buddies and we are loving her!

At Doggy Day Care they are referred to as "the lover of all people & animals and the ambivalent one." I'll bet you can guess which one is the description of Ellie. Wow, she has a lot of love and happiness to share.

So all is well and I can hardly believe I've had her about 8 months already. The time has flown by. Thanks for letting us have Ellie!

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue Foster Program

In addition to relying on many animal rescue groups to help find homes for the homeless dogs and cats of Red Lake, RLRR also has a small foster care program of their own.

These dedicated volunteers provide temporary homes and special care for dogs and cats that are too young or sick or unsocialized for immediate placement. A foster home prepares them for a forever home.

The dogs and cats of Red Lake come in every size, color and pattern. Some of these photos are from "Meet & Greet" events where the fosters caregivers bring their animals to a place where the public can come and learn more about Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Three Red Lake dogs share a bed in their foster home.

Dove, in the middle, is a "failed foster". For non-foster-caregivers that may sound like the dog somehow failed, but, in fact, it is the foster caregiver who couldn't give her up and the foster home becomes her forever home. It is a good thing ;-)

On the left is Ellie and on the right is Dahlia who are both up for adoption on our website.

I think they would each like a bed of their own!
