Eddy: victim of the ticks

One day Aris came to visit Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and had a tiny little puppy with her. She had stopped at a residence and a litter of feral puppies roamed in the yard. They all ran, except little Eddy who was too weak and he fell down.

 
Eddy was very hungry on arrival, but could not hold down the food. After the first day and no stool, he was given laxatone and soft foods and we were so happy to finally see a stool in his cage. We feared an obstruction which would have been really bad news for this little rundown pup. We were grateful to send him to ACT V within two days.

Later Aris returned with one more littermate she was able to catch who is very frightened. This little pup is waiting to go to ACT V to join his brother on Saturday, May 31st. We are so thankful that Aris was able to save 2 of the 4 little feral pups.

UPDATE FROM ACT V:

This is the pup who came in last night with the kittens. His name is Eddy and he was pretty sick. He spent the night in the hospital receiving IV fluids for severe dehydration and had countless deer ticks plucked from around his eye. Gross! Poor guy!

ANOTHER UPDATE FROM ACT V:
Eddy is doing MUCH better...!
When he was in the ICU, we took a picture of the near hundreds of ticks they removed from his tiny body. He was anemic, dehydrated and looking a little punk in the "during" picture and now, he has settled into his foster home, where he's hanging out with a couple of Pugs and enjoying a clean yard (along with his clean body!)

Terri sent us an update on Eddy, a Red Lake dog her family adopted.  Terri has been a great volunteer transporting Red Lake, Leech Lake, Bemidji, and Roseau animals all winter.

UPDATE FROM EDDY'S FAMILY:

As promised here are pictures of our Red Lake Rosie's Rescue pup, Eddy. He is about 11 months now.   I don’t know what his name was before, but I got him through Pet Haven and Sandy Thomson was fostering him.  We adore him!

He started out at 19 lbs and now is about 70 lbs.  He needs a little more training (wow, for sure) but that is our problem…not his.  

He LOVES outside and is one of the most “oral” dogs I have ever met -- Likes something in his mouth all the time.  

He is playful and so good with other dogs.  Our other dog is a small terrier mix, and she and Eddy had a rough start, but they are now best friends.

Emmy - Another Success Story!

Emmy was brought into the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley on July 9, 2011 from Leech Lake. When I took her out of her kennel at Leech Lake to get her prepared for the ride to the Cities, I immediately fell in love with the big brown girl. I quickly discovered her soulful eyes and her very sweet, gentle personality.

EmmyEmmy’s three puppies (Ellie, Elsa and Eddie) were old enough to be weaned but still very much wanted to nurse from their momma. When I closed Emmy in her own kennel for the ride to the Cities, I would swear she gave me a grateful look before she curled up into a ball and fell asleep.

EllieElsaEddieEmmy was a very timid girl and spent some time in a program at AHS specifically designed for shy/fearful dogs. Emmy did very well in the program and was then put up for adoption.

Emmy was on the adoption floor for almost a month where she was passed over again and again until one day last week, Emmy was chosen to be WCCO’s Pet of the Week.

She was featured on WCCO’s Pet of the Week on Friday, August 5. She was adopted the very next day! (Click on the link above to see the video of Emmy's TV debut.)

A big thank you to WCCO for helping Emmy find her forever home and to the Animal Humane Society for their ongoing efforts in helping the dogs on the Leech Lake Indian Reservation.

April 11 Transport

Mike and Lauren have been at the RLRR shelter volunteering once again. They arrived on Friday and left Sunday morning with two cats and five dogs to be placed at Act V, All Dog, Feline Rescue, and RLRR foster homes.

As usual they did lots of work in the shelter yard and socializing animals. A feral juvenile dog named Sadie was loose in the yard and we could not catch her. Lauren was able to gain her trust and put her in a kennel with her sister.

PANDORA AND LAURENDuring their visit, a puppy arrived at the shelter -- we called her Pandora or Pandy for short. This little girl was so hungry and dehydrated. She also could not walk. We could get her to stand for a little while, then she would slip and fall.

PANDORAThe good news is that Pandy joined the transport and is headed to Act V and Dr. Vickie. We are so thankful that Pandy arrived and got out just in time.

ANDYAndy, a small wire-haired terrier, is also going to Act V. He has been ill for about 5 days. We kept him alive with sub-cu feedings, antibiotics, and NutriCal and are thankful he will be getting great care by Dr. Vickie, too.

TOM TOMTom Tom was a stray barn cat that lived on a rural farm. He has an eye that is sore and a front leg that has a wound. We got him neutered and immunized on Friday- and when he came back to the shelter he was so friendly and loveable, we talked the farmers in to letting him leave the barn life and find a forever home. Feline Rescue is taking him and we just know, with his personality, he will really make a great companion.

CHI CHIPretty Chi Chi was a surrender at the last clinic and is also enroute to Feline Rescue.

MARIGOLDMarigold is a little stray shepherd headed to All Dog. Marigold is spayed and vaccinated but needs lots of tlc.

WINSTONPoor tiny Winston came in with severe mange. He started treatment at RLRR and is going to a RLRR foster home.

EDDYEddy, the little brown chihuahua is also going to a RLRR foster home.
