Coco's Heart Rescue needs donations for parvo pups

Coco's Heart Rescue took in 10 puppies from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Unfortunately, at least three of them have come down with Parvo since transport. Can you make a donation to help them pay for veterinary care? http://cocosheartdogrescue.org/rescue-dogs-mn-donate/#/donate/

NOTE FROM COCO'S HEART RESCUE ON FACEBOOK:
Donations needed! We have had an incredibly expensive month and are reaching out for help raising monetary donations to put towards our medical expenses! All donations are tax-deductible.

Just this week alone, we have spent nearly $6000 taking care of sick and injured dogs. They are always well-worth it, but we need your support! We strive to provide them the very best care but it adds up quickly!

The 3 puppies are being treated for parvo-virus a potentially deadly virus without treatment other than extensive supportive care in the hospital.

Sweet as Cocoa

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call on the morning of April 13th just as Karen was about to leave for a weekly transport to the metro.  On board was a litter of 5 puppies and 2 cats, and one kitten.

The caller that morning said she had a dog with something coming out of her rear.  They wanted to surrender Cocoa to Red Lake Rosie's. Karen veered off the transport trail and went to pick up Cocoa who was on a chain and obviously a very sick girl.
Even before Karen got to Bemidji, she got the good news that Dr. Vickie of Act V would take Cocoa right on transport that very day!  Jen and O'Sullivans had contacted her with the details and once again she answered the call to help Cocoa.

We are so thankful to the great support team and rescues that take our animals.  We send many injured animals to Act V.

Sincerely, Karen Good

UPDATE FROM ACT V:
Cocoa came to us from Red Lake Saturday with a large vaginal prolapse. A surgeon evaluated her and decided the best course was to spay her and remove the mass. It was a big surgery for the sweet little girl.

We had to work hard to control her pain for the first couple of days, but now we have to keep her from playing too hard. She will make a full recovery and will make some family very happy. She is ready to meet potential adopters now.

Coco: Warm and Comforting

Here are some pictures and a little info from the young lady who adopted Teasle-they are very happy together. Teasle was, to me, very special. If ever I would have kept a cat for myself-she was the one. But I'm very happy she found a home of her own.

Peace to all creatures, Barbara Bowman

NOTE FROM ADOPTER:
I first saw Teasle on Petfinder in late July of this year. I thought she was so cute and her description sounded like a perfect fit for me (I work long hours so I needed a cat that would be fine home alone all day, but I wanted one that would hang out with me when I was actually home).

I contacted Pet Haven and they put me in contact with her foster, Barbara. We made a plan for me to come visit Teasle, and once I did, I knew for sure that she was the perfect cat for me. I officially adopted Teasle right before Labor Day and it has been a wonderful three months!

My family and friends had a lot of fun thinking up a new name for her. My mom wanted to call her Joe after Joe Mauer because she is a polydactyl and her paws look like a catcher's mitt. I decided to call her Coco because she is warm and comforting like a cup of hot chocolate.

Coco is very social, she loves when I have family or friends over to my place. She will pick a person, jump up on their lap and be content to remain curled up there the whole night, occasionally drooling from sheer bliss. Other times she moves from person to person, trying to get some attention from everyone.

I never feel lonely with Coco around, she provides plenty of entertainment and companionship. She is very good at making just enough room for her to fit between me and the edge of the bed at night or for her to lay almost on top of the computer when it is on my lap. She can be very talkative and loves to play with stuffed mice. I tied one to the back of a chair so it dangles at her eye level and she loves to bat it around. Coco is my furry alarm clock; I never have to worry about sleeping in too late, she lets me know when it is time to wake up and feed her.

All in all, Coco is a delight and I am so happy to have her in my life.

Colleen's winter weekend at RLRR

Kristin took these great photos, but just look at the sad eyes on all of these dogs.

PUPS WITH BLUE EYESCOLLEEN SAYS:
Hi everyone- I know some of you enjoy hearing about weekends up in Red Lake so having just come back I thought I would give you a weekend recap.

REILLYI left and drove up to Karen's mid day on Thursday- in time to help with chores around 6:30 pm. I arrived to find blood on the snow and ice and come to find out one of her dogs, Riley had cut his pad on ice or something and was was bleeding pretty readily. Looked worse than it was on the snow, but he ended up getting a couple of stitches and now has the "cone" head attire.

BELLE & BONNIE HAVE RICKETS AND MANGEBUT THEY NOW HAVE BEAUTIFUL SWEATERSThe saddest story of the weekend was about Kena- a large golden retrvr mix whose people had called Karen earlier in the week to come and get their dog as "he had been hit by a car"... Karen brought him to the vet where it was determined that he didn't have any broken bones and most likely would mend with time. So the next day we drove to Gonvik vet to pick him up. We kenneled him on Friday nite and by Sat am found that he has passed in the kennel over nite. It was sad and unexpected as he had looked like he was doing quite better the night before- so his internal injuries must have been pretty extensive.

SPRUCED UP CATHOUSEKristin and a new volunteer Heidi arrived on Friday night and worked very hard all day Saturday cleaning and moving cartons from the cat house to the new storage shed, clearing room in the cat house and lessening the claustrophobia. They cleaned light fixtures, put in new bulbs, did continuous laundry and dish cleaning.

KARMAIn the midst of that they socialized "not so social" puppies that were brought in on Friday, while Karen and I took a trip to Thief River Falls to do a WalMart run. The kid in the pet supply area about fell over when we asked for 15 bags of cat litter!

It was beautiful up there as the temps were fairly mild and the fog hung on the trees in the morning both days and it looked like a crystal forest.

ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBERTWO IS BETTERTHREE IS BEST: CRYSTAL, COCO, CURTWe transported out 16 animals on Sunday, but not before I managed to slide off the new road a bit, near the kennel and get stuck. So Karen and the girls then had to push me out!!

Many thanks to Kristin and Heidi for their very hard work and to Karen for her endless commitment to animals at RL. For anyone thinking of making a Red Lake trip the road is always open and Karen is always grateful for the help. If any of you would want a firsthand report from the new recruits I could put you in touch with them!

Colleen

All sad eyes, except the dog in Karen's arms.
