Always grateful for new volunteers!

John is a new friend of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, who had been a volunteer at Minnesota Valley Humane Society. He recently rented a U-haul and delivered 3196 pounds of Purina One Kibble as well as lots of canned dog and cat food and met the O'Sullivans who delivered it to the RLRR shelter.

John also made a road trip, accompanied by his two dogs Buddy and Dane, to the RLRR shelter with 8 new beautiful barn style dog houses he purchased at Petco to put in the 2-pod to keep the puppies warm in the winter.

He rode out taking a litter of 6 shep pups which went to St. Francis of Assissi. He kept the puppies at his home in Eagan for 2 days enjoying their playful company and delivered them to SFAAR after their visit.

John and I also discussed a particular need and possible solution for one big issue at RLRR. A significant part of the mission of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue is to provide a food for the malnourished dogs and cats on the reservation. Most of that food is received as donations in the metro area and it requires storage and transportation to RLRR.

Our thought is that a cargo trailer (tandem, at least 12 x 7 foot) could be parked in the metro to store donated food and supplies for the shelter. A new trailer would cost about $5,000, but a used one with good tires for the long journey would also work.

Our volunteers in the metro could bring the donations to be stored in the trailer and John has offered to tow a full trailer up to the reservation and return it to the metro empty on an ongoing basis.

Right now the ability of our volunteers to store the donations is burdensome, and also attracts mice/vermin to their residences. A cargo trailer should be vermin-proof and would be very useful. Does anyone have a trailer that might serve this function? Let us know if you have suggestions.
