How Shyla brought Pet Haven to RLRR

In the winter of 2006, we had rescued a number of very abused dogs
during one week at RLRR. I sent out pictures of a group of animals
we were hoping to find help for including now Ellie Mae Clampet, Shyla, a juvenile puppy with the eye poked out and a pitbull/lab dog named Casey with scars all over his face.

Someone forwarded the pictures to Pet Haven and Ann emailed me with the good news that Pet Haven would take Shyla.

SHYLA THENShyla was found on a very short chain at the same place Ellie Mae, the burned dog was found. She was starving and full of mange. The cold wind blew on her as she stood in the middle of an open area with no shelter. I was frantic to help her.

Thankfully, with assertiveness, I was able to take Shyla to the shelter. This began a long road of healing for her.

It was also the first dog we placed with Pet Haven which began a long relationship resulting in the placing dogs, many older and harder to place animals with medical issues.

SHYLA NOW WITH ANNWe are so appreciative of Pet Haven and the special spot they have in their heart for the Red Lake kids!

  1. Pet Haven is an incredible organization with a very hard- working group of dedicated people. We adopted a special dog
from them 14 years ago, and we
knew back then that they were top
notch. Thank you Pet Haven for
the many years of serving the animals and for making a huge difference in the lives of those animals who come off the Reservation. You'll always be
the best of the best to us.

  3. I cried when I read this story - but it has a happy ending! Shyla looks so much better now. This is a great story. Thank you, everyone, for saving this dog and her companion. I just don't understand how people can treat their animals like this.

  4. What a sad story indeed. It's beyond words how wonderful it is that there are people who rescue these dogs and give them a second chance. We can't say thank you enough for our Elly May and her friend Shyla, they would have no doubt died there if it weren't for you. Mike and I just said last night that our next dog will also be a Red Lake dog.
