Foxie Moxie fosters Scout

Check out this marvelous photo! I was just thinking that we hadn't had an update on Moxie in a while. Her mom was an early contributor to this blog. I'm so pleased to hear that she is fostering now, too.

SCOUT AND MOXIEHi all!
Took the dogs, Moxie & her foster brother, Scout, for a hike at Banning State Park, 10/11/09. They are so good off-leash!! Staying close, coming when called. They had such a good time, and made being there even better!

Thanks to you all for the dogs you have helped bring into my life, for working hard to keep bringing dogs into peoples lives, and for helping me to join you in this gratifying work.

Love
Darcie ~ mom of Moxie, foster mom of Scout

Moxie is living a life of love and doggie luxury

"After a dip in my pool, I enjoy sunning myself in my lounge chair on the deck. Isn't life grand?!" says Moxie (aka Foxy)

I will never be able to thank you enough for our Moxie!

Love,
D

It's a small world

Two RLRR doggies run into each other at the dog park:
Hi! Look who we ran into at the dog park this weekend!!! My friends & I were admiring a puppy; I had to stop to pet him. The people walking the puppy said the pup was from up north & had been found starving. They are fostering him thru All Dog Rescue. I told him Moxie was from RLRR and he said the puppy was too!
He was happy & having a great time :)
Love,

Foxie Moxie has a foster brother

Karen--
I love to look at all the pix of the companion animals you are saving. Sweet Peaches looks like her leg needs some help, poor love.

Wanted to update you on our "Foxie Moxie". She has a foster brother now, who maybe ( fingers crossed! :-) ) will be her forever brother.

"Scout" is a 1 yr old Flat Coat Retriever mix who needs surgery on both hips. I go with tonight on an appt for him to get a second opinion on what type of surgery would be best for him. He has been w/ us for almost 2 months now, he came so we could help him thru his post op.

Moxie & Scout have become very close, they are both high energy. They love wrestling on the bed, chasing each other at the dog park, and snuggling up for a nap. And they keep me very warm at night too! :-) When her eyes are runny, he washes her face for her! It's so cute!

At the dog park there is a young dog who plays REALLY rough. I try to keep Moxie close to me as this dog always goes for her & she doesn't like it. I need worry no longer! After guarding Moxie on a few visits, Scout decided to settle matters once & for all. Scout ran up to the dog, knocked her down & stood there as she showed him her belly: "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I won't pick on your sister any more!".

Ever since then, the dog won't even LOOK at Moxie!!!!! I was surprised when he did it, cuz he really is a very mild boy, but enough is enough! He is about 60 lbs & 27" at the shoulder.

My love to you all & many thanks daily for our darling Moxie. She warms my heart with her love.

Update on Foxie Moxie

Dear Denise,
(Pix are Mox in pool, Mox w/ her Fox in Sox toy & Moxie as my bath matt :)
It's not safe to encourage me to share stories about Moxie! :)
Let's see...this little girl that I didn't even know such a short time ago follows me around so closely she is always stepping on the back of my shoe or slipper. She loves practicing lessons from class. Sometimes I just use gestures. Moxie loves her squeaky toys! Usually all I have to do is say "squeaky squeak" and she will find one & start squeaking. Sometimes we carry on a squeak conversation back & forth. Perhaps in copying her Elkhound sister Sydneys' rooo-roooo noise, Moxie has started making a soft little roo sound, we praise her & she is doing it more & more often. We practice "bring this to mommy" "bring this to daddy" with an item and she is getting pretty good at it. Got her a pool to see if she would like it and she sure does! The hose though, is even better! She also thinks her new ball that squirts out water when she bites it is really cool too.
I keep adding new games to keep her mentally stimulated. A new one she likes is I creep my hand slowly toward her as she is biting on a toy.
She will stop biting it in eager anticipation of who can grab it quicker.
You can see the excitement in her eyes as she is trying to guess when I will pounce!
The fun Moxie & her sister Sydney have daily is hilarious! Sydney has gained confidence having Moxie here and also classes helped them both a lot.
Since Syd is right handed & Moxie a leftie, they will sit next to each other for a treat & when I say shake they each put their paw in my hand at the same time. Sydney had to learn it's ok for another dog to touch her, so this is a much bigger feat than it may sound! Sydney always liked to play, but the shelties in our home never cuddled w/ her etc, so she was foreign to someone like Moxie who has no comprehension that maybe everyone does not want to be sat on , or leaned on, or laid on top of!!
Yes, we have had some holes chewed in blankets, Some of my under garments have been devoured nearly completely, a shoe or two has some teeth marks on it, there are holes in the back yard just recently because there is some type of bug she is in pursuit of, several stuffed toys have met untimely deaths.........though I remind her those things are not good things to do, I smile inside, delighting that she is happy now, but I think not nearly as happy as she makes me.

The Moxie Smile

Moxie was found on an old truck trail as a young puppy. She had damage to her nose area, and we suspected that she had been shot in the face with perhaps a 22 gun. Anyway- she was found and was very frightened at first. But being hungry, she was not hard to catch. She went to Pet Haven and was adopted by a wonderful family who love her very much.

Here's what her mom wrote:
Moxie got to try corn on the cob this last weekend! She learned QUICKLY how to remove just the kernels from the cob w/ daddy holding it for her.
Mox is very afraid of fireworks, and the safest place is by Daddy. I've been taking 3-4 mile walks on the weekend thru the wooded parks nearby and Moxie is really enjoying that. I would love to clock her speed, cuz man this girl is fast!

The previous owners of our home were golf players. They installed a very large putting green, a sand trap, and this tuft of long grass section. Since the dogs enjoy the coolness of the grassy patch, we don't mow it down. If the ball chances to land in it, Moxie bounces w/ glee in after the ball & will keep diving back down in the grass until she finds the ball.

Foxie Moxie is headed to school

We received another update on Foxie Moxie the former Red Lake dog. In the photo above she is playing with her dog sister Sydney and the grandaughter of her new family. In the photo at left, it is time for some cuddling and rest. Her family reports:

We are so happy Moxie joined our family! I think she is a very happy girl.

We start obedience classes on Monday with her & are bringing our elkhound too, who needs a refresher course I think. :-) it would be nice to also convince her to quit digging holes in the backyard.

Thank you so much for all the love you pour into the dogs & cats in your care.

Moxie is fun, devoted, smart & loving, we are so lucky!

Foxie Moxie

Here's a good ending, for Foxie, now Moxie found on an old reservation logging road. She had a broken nose and was starving. We believe she was dumped on that road. She was rescued and turned in to Polly of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue who cared for her and then sent her to the shelter.
She went to Pet Haven and was adopted out to her forever home
Thank you to transporter and to Pet Haven for helping Foxie get her new home and a new life.

Moxie in her new forever home. As you see she likes to take ALL the toys out of the basket!
