UPDATE FROM ALL DOG RESCUE:
I took Kelly to the emergency vet on Sunday night and from there called Lindsay of Akin Hills Pet Hospital to ask if we could move Kelly to Akin Hills Monday morning. To my amazement, Lindsay offered to meet me at Akin Hills that night and save us the cost of overnight hospitalization at the emergency vet -- Incredibly generous of Lindsay.

By the time I drove Kelly to Akin Hills, Dr. Batsch was there with Lindsay and they immediately got Kelly on fluids and gave her a bunch of medication. It was incredibly kind of them to meet me at 8pm on a Sunday night!

I spoke with Lindsay the next day and Kelly vomited throughout the night but is a little more alert. Age guess is 1-2 years old and she is not emaciated or otherwise in bad shape. She should survive this. They plan to keep her at Akin Hills for the entire week but the prognosis is tentatively positive.

UPDATE ON KELLY TODAY:
Hi Karen, Kelly seems to be doing very well. Dr. Bartsch is planning to send her back to her foster home tomorrow, whew! As of Wednesday Kelly was eating well and much more alert. It helps that she came in at a good weight and aside from parvo was in good shape. What a relief!

Karen's summary of the clinic

We are happy to report that a number of animals were transported out during and immediately after the clinic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 24 - 26.
We were able to spay and neuter 63 dogs and 43 cats during the clinic sponsored by DJ and T Foundation, Lawson Family Fund and Mobile Service Unit of AHS with Dr. Kim Culbertson.
Delicious vegetarian food was provided by Claudia and DeeDee . Lots of donations including food, paper products, and animal foods came from Linda and Animal Ark, too.
A large load of dog and cat food came to Red Lake Rosie's from the Shed in Chaska one week before the clinic. One pallet of this food was given to community dogs and cats during the clinic. Tom and Nancy O'Sullivan drove all the way to deliver the food to the shelter.
Lots of other people made financial donations. The Macks have been most generous in sponsoring clinics. We also are indebted to the rescue groups who take the animals and place them in good homes and the transporters who get them where they need to go. It takes many people to make the clinic a success to help the Red Lake animals.

Also special thank yous to all who sponsored 15 cots in "Cots for Clinics" which will be very useful during clinics for volunteers who stay in the warehouse. We will be using them during the May Clinic.

The metro team members DeeDee & Crystal and Sharae, who is a teenager from Red Lake, were the faithful volunteers working very hard to make it all work. There are so many, I cannot name them all.
Our transporters are DeeDee, Crystal, Mike, Tom & Nancy and Carolyn. Also Lauren and Mike who made the large Easter transport to clear out kennels for the clinic surrenders.

Unwanted dogs need placement

Dear Friends: Hi and hope all are well.

I wanted to let the rescues and shelters who have helped us so much in the past know that we are once again getting the influx of unwanted animals as a prelude to the clinic which is April 22-24.

We have had 7 dogs surrendered so far this week, and another call from a lady with 2 adult dogs and 5 puppies that she "just does not want". Another call tonight of a 3-4 year old male that another household "does not want anymore".

So---17 dogs so far unwanted and the clinic has not even started yet.

The dogs and puppies we are intaking as surrenders will be neutered/spayed and immunized. I will send pics of the ones we have so far if any are interested in helping any of them. All animals so far are wonderful.

I want to thank you for any commitment you can make so when the clinic is over, the animals will have some place to go as we only have so much space at our shelter- 17 kennels.

I am sorry to burden you all with our needs that always seem so great. We have appreciated your great help and kindness in the past and have gotten homes for many of the unwanted animals here. Thank you.MURPHY came tonight- a shep mix juvenile- he will be altered and immunized- seems to be a really nice guy.KELLY AND HER PUP KAYLYNN arrived tonight. Husky- kind of petite about 35 lbs. and very sweet puppy.WABIGON (Little Flower)- came Easter Sunday- spayed and shots- 1 year old- they just do not want her anymore. Very nice girl, and very submissive.SKYE- male malemute, large male, to be neutered. Very active, needs a home where he gets lots of exercise. Very nice nature.WINDI- female came in with no litter. One dead pup laying by her on the road and one other pup that the people said that someone took. Very nice girl, has a smile on her face- came yesterday- Young - less than l year I think. Sweet girl and nice spirit. She will be spayed and immunized.WARRIOR rescued 3 days ago, attacked in Red lake by the Trading post by 3 pitbulls, nearly dead- taken to vet and on pain meds and antibiotics- now getting better, sitting up- eating. A very, very nice sweet dog- juvenile black shep.
