Chuckie recovers from rickets

Chuckie was surrendered to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue because his legs were crooked.  Often puppies are surrendered with a condition called "rickets" which often results from prenatal and postnatal malnutrition.  The bones do not develop properly due to mineral deficiencies.  We use nutritional treatment and give time for the legs to straighten and we have never had a case that could not be corrected with our patience and good quality grain free canned and kibble.

Chuckie came in with the condition and was taken by Jean of Carver-Scott Humane Society.  As the photos verify he became a healthy pup and now has a bright future with his new family!

A special thank you to the donors for food and transporters for delivering the food. Also to the rescues who take our puppies and help them heal and find new homes.

Good morning Karen.  Attached is a new photo of Chuckie. He overcame rickets, and his legs have straightened out and are strong. He turned into a typical mischievous puppy, and his foster family adores him.

Run free, Chuckie!

On June 10, 2012, there was a blog post about a dear older small dog we named Chuckie. He was found abandoned in a ditch. Thankfully, despite his medical condition, Pet Haven took him on May 26, 2012.

We just heard that little Chuckie crossed the rainbow bridge. We are thankful that he got great care and did not have to die alone in a ditch!

Chuck had a great life up until just recently. He was in loving hospice care with the president of Pet Haven. He is now running free with all the other Red Lake Rosie's Rescue dogs that have gone over the bridge. Thanks for all you do for dogs like Chuckie Cheese.

I wanted to let you know that on Saturday April 6, Chuck crossed the rainbow bridge.  His quality of life was being compromised because of his age, pain, and his rapidly accelerating dementia. Chuck was also probably deaf and almost blind.  

The past week or so we saw Chuck decline even more and after talking to his foster Sally, she and I decided it was best for Chuck to go to the Bridge.  Sally and Laura were both there with him.

Thank you so much to both Laura B. and Sally for fostering this guy.

He was kind of grumpy, looked a little scraggly, and didn't have a lot of teeth left, but he drew people to him for all of those reasons.

Chuckie

Chuckie's owner apparently bought this little guy a new red collar, then left him in a ditch on a country road in the middle of nowhere. This little old boy was a small mixed breed and weighs all of about 8 pounds. We think he is about 8 years old.

Someone came by on May 14th and saw him lying in the ditch, and felt compassion and dropped him to Gonvick vet and called Red Lake Rosie's Rescue- and of course we took him in. He came to be known as Chuckie, and later Chuckie Cheese.

Chuckie is VERY thin, and dehydrated, and we cleaned up his teeth at the vet, and got him a shot of convenia, long acting antibiotic. He is very sweet. He tested positive for anaplasma and lymes which may account for his limping. Thankfully, he had no heartworm.

Chuckie lived in an outdoor kennel here at the shelter for 12 days. He went for morning and evening strolls and was a very sweet boy. Chuckie got along well with all the dogs, big and small and would follow Mike and Karen around the shelter.

Pet Haven took an interest in Chuckie's story and on May 26th he rode out for a foster home. This is not the first time Pet Haven has stepped up to take an older dog that most would reject. We just felt that after being abandoned on the highway how could we not extend a great effort to find Chuckie a good home for the remaining years of his life.
