Frankie (formerly Bo) arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue all torn up from a dog attack. He spent eight months recovering in foster care and was adopted in June 2010.

BEST DAY EVER

Bo/Frankie adopted!

Monday afternoon, almost 8 months after you saved a horribly injured dog from a lonely and painful death, Frankie marched up the front steps of his new home!

Frankie was adopted by an active and loving couple. He had visited his new home a few days earlier and clearly remembered it was a great place. He pulled me to the door, walked in, and made himself comfortable.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have Frankie in my life. Though I can't speak for his new family, from the happy tone in his mom's voice when I talked to her last night, I have no doubt they would say "Thank you" as well!

It isn't possible to fully appreciate how special it is that this dog has found a loving home without revisiting his condition on arrival at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Bo's owners said that he had been attacked by a pack of dogs. They surrendered him to RLRR, but unfortunately not until he had suffered with his injuries for a week without treatment. Karen took him to the vet and reported on his situation:

Bo just returned from the vet in Gonvick. His ear was practically severed off, also the inside of the ear chewed. He had many puncture wounds on his head and abdomen. Dr. Marceen cleaned the wounds, stitched the ear and put in a drain. Bo got an antibiotic shot and I am giving oral antiobiotics twice a day plus rimadyl for his pain. The vet aged him at no more than a year. Teeth she said, are beautiful. He is a very kind and meek boy!

Karen was so grateful to All Dog Rescue for taking on the challenge of caring for Bo and was thrilled to get the following update from his foster home:

Bo (now going by Frankie) is recovering beautifully! I saw the "before"
photos and couldn't believe he was the same dog. The vet who stitched him up did a fantastic job.

If you couldn't see Frankie's wounds, you would never know he had been so badly injured. Only a week after the attack, he is playful, energetic, and as sweet as ever. The movement in his back legs improves daily. The drainage tube has been removed and his wounds are healing well. There are no signs of infection and he sits patiently while I flush them with antiseptic. He has a huge appetite and the only thing he loves more than playing fetch is having someone pet him.

I was worried he would have problems with other dogs, but that's not the case. He keeps an eye on the dogs we meet while out walking, but doesn't become fearful or aggressive.

It's hard to believe Frankie survived such a brutal attack and amazing that he has bounced back so quickly. He has a way to go before he is ready for a new home. But when it happens, he will make someone very happy!

FRANKIE'S POST ON PETFINDER FOR ALL DOG RESCUE:
Frankie is a 37-lb pit bull mix who is around 1.5 years old. He was surrendered to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue by the people he trusted to care for him a full week after being critically injured by other dogs. His left ear was nearly torn off, his head was ripped open, and his body was covered in bite wounds. He had received no veterinary care during that week and couldn't stand without help. When called, the volunteers at the shelter brought this little guy, who was near death, to a vet where he finally received the care he needed. Several days later, he made his way to All Dog Rescue. Though he had nearly lost his life and was in great pain, he was sweet and loving from the day he arrived in his foster home.

Because Frankie was so young at the time he was attacked, his wounds healed quickly. But, it became obvious he was having problems using his rear legs. X-rays showed severe dysplasia in both hips. On top of everything he had been through, Frankie needed surgery to fix this congenital problem. Surgery was performed on his right hip last November and his left hip has now been fixed, as well. Frankie is breezing through the recovery from his second surgery and will soon be ready to live the carefree and painless life he deserves.

Frankie loves walks, playing fetch, running, playing fetch, trips to the dog park, and playing fetch. He also loves to play fetch. He wants to make every person he meets his best friend. He is currently living with two small dogs and a cat. He ignores the cat, likes the dogs, but prefers dogs that will wrestle! At his young age, he still has a lot of puppy in him and will find ways to entertain himself if bored. So, he's being crated when his foster mom is not home.

Frankie is unbelievably attentive. He seems to know every move his foster mom is going to make before she does. He's been off-leash when out of an urban area and at a dog park. He stays within sight, frequently looks back to check in, and comes when called. He knows the commands "sit", "wait", "come", and is learning "down". He walks best on a leash when wearing a Gentle Leader. He is housetrained and sleeps under the covers at night by his foster mom's feet.

Frankie has a lot of energy and needs a home that will give him daily exercise. In return, he will give his home a lot of love.

Bo/Frankie: Healing and Happy

Frankie is doing very well! He's working on getting healthy, though. The vet x-rayed his hips about a month ago and found severe dysplasia in both hips. He had an FHO on the right hip the following day. The surgery didn't keep him down very long. He quickly learned to get by on 3 legs and has since started bearing weight on the right leg. He still favors it every once in a while and he's lost a lot of muscle tone, but it's coming back now that he can use both legs. I'm going to give him a few more weeks and have the vet take a look to see if he's ready to have the left hip fixed.

Frankie is looking beautiful. The fur has grown back on his head and body and it's only a little thin now on the left side of his neck. The fur will probably never grow in around his left ear (the one that was nearly torn off), but it gives him character. Take a look at this page on the Just Pawsitive Photography site. John and Jennifer Adams volunteered to take photos of our foster dogs. The photos were taken 1 1/2 months ago and the white skin on Frankie's left side is no longer visible, so he doesn't look like a partially completed puzzle!

Frankie's a great dog. He loves to take walks, fetch, wrestle other dogs, and snuggle when he's worn out. Oh boy, it does take a lot to wear him out! He's been helping me get into shape with all the walks - he's better than a gym membership. He's a quick learner and very eager to please. He loves food and toys, but I think his favorite thing is to hear "good job".

I'll try to be better about keeping you updated on his progress. He's in the home stretch now and it won't be long before he's ready for his new home!

Bo/Frankie is on the mend

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was having trouble getting a
picture that did justice to Frankie. But, professional photographers John & Jennifer Adams of Just Pawsitive Photography offered to take pictures of the All Dog Rescue foster dogs and they look great.

Frankie is doing extremely well. He's sweet, cuddly, happy, and ready to take on the world. The stitches were removed from his inner ear when he was neutered and that area healed nicely. The gash around the back of his head healed o.k., but not as well. The options are to expose fresh tissue and stitch him back up or allow the area to scar over. We are going to let it scar over. The little guy has been through enough and we don't want to do anything that will cause him pain if it's not medically necessary.

He must have had close to 100 bites on the rest of his body. Fortunately, most did not puncture the skin and the damaged areas have sloughed off. He looks cute - like a reverse Dalmatian with little patches of white skin showing through his black hair. His back legs only get stiff now after he's done a lot of running, playing fetch, or wrestling other dogs - all of which he loves. I try to keep him from overdoing it, but he feels better and acts younger every day. That dog has some energy! He's come so far in just a few weeks that the leg issues were most likely from the attack, but we are going to have his hips x-rayed to rule out dysplasia.

Frankie wants to meet every human and small dog he sees. He's becoming comfortable around and interested in larger dogs. It won't be long before he's ready to wrestle with the big boys. It will be fun to watch. By the way, he's a genius. He learned to sit and lie down in just a couple of quick sessions and he's working on stay. I had him off-leash when I was out of the city one weekend and he never went out of sight. He
immediately came back when I called him, even when he found a deer trail.

Thanks again for saving Frankie. He's a wonderful dog and you can probably tell I'm crazy about him. All the dogs I've fostered have been great in many ways, but there is something spectacular about the dogs from RLRR!

Oct. 14 transport including poor Bo

I was pleased to be able to transport assorted supplies up to Karen and trade them for a load of animals on October 14. The supplies included sweaters and jackets for puppies made by Laura Leonard and her mother in Omaha, Nebraska. We'll expect to see photos of the pups modeling them soon!

TRIO OF TUXIESI transported eleven kittens all about eight weeks old -- a litter of three tuxies that went to a foster home, a litter of six gray assorted and a two lonely onlies that were found separately, paired up at RLRR and named Blues Clues and Sweet Pea.

SIX GRAY KITTENS (ASSORTED)The eight are being fostered at my house, but we would like to find a new foster home with more time for them.

BLUES CLUES & SWEET PEAI also transported three dogs and met up with foster cargivers for All Dog Rescue in Maple Grove.

ZENITHZENITHI had the irresistible darling husky puppy, Zenith,
