The Wonderful Wizard of RLRR

I have a very interesting story about "being in the right place at the right time".

Amy, a Pet Haven volunteer, spent the past weekend at Red Lake Rosie Rescue, and a small dog, we called Wizard came in with a severe wound from a dog attack. Amy had been looking for a Brussels Griffon dog to adopt, and here he appeared. He also had a previous dog attack wound which had been healed. We are very happy that Wizard got out of his dangerous situation, and now is adopted by Amy.

HERE'S AN UPDATE FROM AMY:
Wizard still does not have a permanent name yet... we've had many ideas and suggestions but still trying to find one that really suits him. For now we can still call him Wizard, since that was what we first started calling him. I'll let you know what we decide on..

He is currently staying with my boss as a temporary foster until next Friday when we move into the new house. He is getting plenty of good socialization there with her and her husband along with their 2 dogs, 2 cats, a bird, some reptiles, and 9 ferrets...

I make sure I see him every day too- he is perking up and becoming more alert every day. He has gotten much more confident in walking on the leash- he likes to prance ahead for awhile but eventually will stop and sit down. He is VERY curious- for starting out in such rough shape he certainly has a lot of confidence and a great personality.

Still seems a little unsure of playing with toys- he is definitely interested in them but hasn't quite got the hang of it yet. He is very friendly with people- his little tail wags constantly- and I still haven't seen a dog yet that he was aggressive towards or scared of. He met his new brother Cody through the kennel door for now- but both tails were wagging so that's a good sign so far :)

I did bring him in to see a vet yesterday for a follow-up visit on all of his wounds. For the large underarm wound he was given a topical antibiotic which is to be given with a warm compress every 12 hours. I was advised to still keep the wound open, and let it heal on its own along with treatment. He was also given another de wormer, and had a heartworm test done and was put on his first heartworm preventative. His heartworm test came up negative, but there was a slight positive on the Lyme.
All the vets there agreed that he is a Brussels Griffon mix. He also weighed in at 4.2 pounds, and was guessed to be about 10 months of age. He is all set to be neutered on July 21st. So, overall, things are looking up for the little guy- once he comes to live with me, I will have more to share!

Thank you so much for all you did for him, I really appreciate you providing me with the opportunity to take Wizard back with me and give him his forever home. Thank you also for having us, we all had a great weekend and I would guess that all of us will be back again soon.

More updates on Wizard to come-

Amy
