Waylon's winning ways

Another great update on ARVSS pups from Red Lake.

Karen :)

UPDATE FROM ARVSS:
Waylon is one of Sarah's puppies. I am sending pictures of him when he was with me at 2 and 10 weeks :) We named him Sambuca--now he is Waylon.

His new owner is just like him--full of energy and spunk!!!

UPDATE FROM FAMILY:
Waylon is 37 pounds now and losing baby teeth, but that doesn't stop him from being a monster on the go. He is full of energy and keeps me on my toes.

We love him to death, he is just such a cutie.

I wanted to send this one along also so you can see our family all together: Waylon, R~, T~, V~, J~, and Hank.

Small transport GROWS!!!

LOADING UPWell, what started out earlier this week to be a small transport -- 2 cats, a litter of 6 pups and one dog -- grew and grew.

LOADING UPWhen the animals left the shelter this morning there were 43 on board!

TOM & NANCY READY FOR THE FIRST LEG OF THE TRANSPORTWe sent 23 animals to ARVSS in Wisconsin including:

SARAH'S LITTER OF SIXSarah, a mama dog and her newborn litter of 6,

SEVEN SHEPHERD PUPSlitter of 7 orphan pups,

DELLA'S PUPS WITH MANGE
DELLA'S SEVEN PUPSDella's litter of 7 mangy pups, and

DOOLEY & DAWNDooley & Dawn -- 2 little mangy pups found at Ponemah and Red Lake, respectively.

RAE ANNDr. Vickie of Act V is going to take Rae Ann, an injured kitten. I will do a separate blog on Rae Ann and her rescue. It is a very amazing story.

GRACIEGracie, female husky went to a foster home with All Dog Rescue.

LOYATricounty Humane Society helped out by taking Loya, a vetted female rottweiler and 2 cats, Buster and Teo, as well as a litter of 6 puppies.

ROADSTER PUPS, GORDON & HESTERRLRR foster homes are taking the two roadster puppies rescued from the highway called Hester & Gordon.

FIVE KITTENSThree kittens also are going to a vet who fosters kittens for us.

Yesterday at work I ended up with three more small shepherd pups that a lady said strayed into her yard. After all the transport was finalized, Dee Dee calls and happily states that there is a foster home for them too.

Our amazing team of transporters include Tom and Nancy O'Sullivan, Barbara Olson, Dee Dee Welles and Kristin Ripley. Kristin Ripley drove the leg to Wisconsin.

A special thank you to the transporters, the receiving groups and fosters and all our supporters who made this happen for the Red Lake animals.

RLRR helpers: Mike and Sarah and Kevin

It is the first official day of spring and we have more than nice weather to be thankful for. We are happy to report that the Gehl skidloader which spends lots of time being broken down, is back in service again. Mike and myself have been moving tons of soiled straw from the kennels using the wheel barrow which seems to me an endless job when we have up to 17 outdoor kennels in use.

Thank you to Kevin for installing the starter and fixing the tire yesterday. See the picture of Mike enjoying the Gehl again!!
Mike has been employed at the shelter since November 15 when Benay returned to her home in Washington Island, WI. Mike can be seen walking dogs, taking animals to vet, transporting animals out, fostering cats and dogs with special needs, giving meds, cleaning kennels and handling any emergency that comes up.
Mike's salary is paid by the Red Lake Gaming Commission until May. We are currently working with the Bemidji Workforce Center to secure youth employment funding for 300 hours which will last 7 1/2 weeks, and then the possibility of them picking Mike up on their regular work program.

It is wonderful to have Mike working. He has never missed one day of work and his schedule is 7 days per week on a split shift, so he pretty much has to be here all the time. He is great with the animals and does a fantastic job.

Sarah who made the video for RLRR is 20 years old, and she graduated from Red Lake ALC 3 years ago. She is my brother Roger's daughter and does volunteer work at the shelter. She lives at my dad's house near the shelter since he passed away.
SARAH & PUNKIN
She works at the 7 Clans Casino and volunteers as she can at the shelter.

She and Mike have adopted one of the cats that came in after the RAVS clinic with upper respiratory problems. The cat is doing fine today.

They also foster dogs and puppies as needed from the shelter. Today they are fostering Montana who had neuter surgery yesterday and likes to tear out his stitches and seems to get out of his E-Collar.
