Princess Freya

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:
I saw on Facebook the invitation to send in Christmas cards featuring pets from Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue. Here is a picture of Freya who originally came from Red Lake and was adopted from All Dog Rescue. I believe her name was Princess when she was at the Red Lake Rosie’s shelter. She was about 2 ½ years old when we adopted her in June of 2011.

Freya is the most adorable, loving, and sweet-natured dog! She truly has a gentle soul. She is so appreciative of any loving and attention she gets. She thinks she is a lap dog and won’t pass up any opportunity to cuddle and get pet. She never barks and is both mellow and playful.

My son and I want to thank you for rescuing her. We can’t imagine our lives without her. I am amazed at all the work your organization does for animals. We are lucky to have people who work hard on behalf f all the wonderful animals out there who haven’t had the opportunity to start their lives in loving homes.

I intend to spoil my Freya for the rest of her life to make up for the first 2 ½ years of her life.

Thanks again from me, my son and Freya- Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

Sincerely, Julie

Christmas Princess

RECEIVED THIS NOTE ON OUR RED LAKE ROSIE'S RESCUE FACEBOOK PAGE:
Hi Red Lake Rosie's! Way back in May, you rescued our beautiful, sweet girl Princess... and she just wanted to say Merry Christmas! Here she is with her "cousin", Tinkerbell, unwrapping presents at the grandparent's house last weekend. She was so good with the little kids and got tons of attention. Plus she likes rolling around making "angels" in the snow :-)

Haha, I just noticed she has on her "worried" face-- this was after the kids had opened their presents and all the excitement and paper crunching noise was more than she was used to! She always snuggles up to Greg when she gets worried to feel nice and safe.

Forever Princess

Thanks to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and All Dog Rescue, our formerly homeless Princess has found a forever home. Read her back story here.
I wonder if there is a pea under that pillow??

UPDATES FROM NEW FAMILY:
July 2012 - Princess' new family sent an update after her first night in her new home:
Just wanted to let you know that Princess' first night in her new home went very well. She seems to like her bed, and she hasn't shown any loss of appetite or had any accidents. She's been very sweet and loving-- and gets super excited to go on her walks! She got a little scared by the thunder and lightning last night, and she came straight into our room and climbed into bed with us. So hopefully that means she feels safe and comfy with us :)

She's still a little uncertain about the yard, I don't think she really sees it as hers yet, so I have to walk around it with her for now. We saw a few other dogs at the park today and she was well behaved. Thank you again-- we are so happy to have her with us!

Update Received August 2012:
Well, Princess has officially been with us for over a month! And yeah, we're still calling her Princess... she certainly gets spoiled like one :) She's been an absolute dream of a dog-- we stopped kenneling her after the third day because she was so well behaved in the house. She's put on a few pounds and is now at 50, so we're trying to keep her right there.

Greg has been home with her most days during his break between semesters, so she and him are thick as thieves. She's pretty much become his shadow! She's so well behaved and gentle around strangers and little kids, we're considering taking her through the training to become a certified therapy dog. We couldn't be happier with our girl. Thank you again!

Special Mother's Day transport

Mother's Day was special this year. Karen and Carol of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue met the O'Sullivans enroute to the Leech Lake Pound and then on to Motley. There they met Heidi, Jen, and Barbie to take the animals on to their new foster homes and shelters in the metro.

ALMAA little cat found in a tree in Ponemah was brought to the shelter and only spent two days here before Feline Rescue took Alma in. Now she has a bright future.

BOBBI & BARBIEBobbi Ann and Barbie are two juvenile homeless kittens that were found on the White Earth Reservation by Nancy, a teacher at the school. These girls went to AHS where they will be spayed and adopted out.

CHESSYChessy was a stray puppy in Red Lake that went to Animal Ark where there was already a call for a blue-eyed husky. She came in shy but came around real nicely.

PRINCESSPrincess was accepted by All Dog Rescue when they learned that her family became homeless and could no longer keep her. We have hopes for Princess now that she has a foster home to help her heal her heart.

PARISRADARAvis found two puppies at the Redby garbage dump and brought them to the shelter. Paris and Radar both went to All Dog. Both were beautiful animals and so sad that people think that animals are garbage! Avis keeps a watch on the Redby dump and is doing a great job!

LYLELeah and Lyle are two darling pups that came from Ponemah. Tony gave them a ride to the shelter. They, too, went to All Dog.

SAPPHIRESapphire, a very lovely husky shepherd mix, was found at the Red Lake garbage dump during the April clinic. She was rescued by Carol and is so happy to go to a foster home with All Dog.

ANNA BANANAAnna Banana was a return from Tricounty. This little girl was adopted once and returned when the family moved, so we got her back. Now she is off to Pet Haven to a foster home.

BRIANBrian was among the riders going to Act V for necessary neck surgery. We'll share much more about him in the days to come.

JOE, NANCY, CAROL, TOMWe appreciate the partnerships we have and teamwork that helps more animals than we could have imagined a few years ago. We appreciate how all the transporters and rescues respond to the needs of the animals we find. And, as always, thanks to the people whose financial support -- large and small -- helps us to get emergency medical care for the animals as needed.

Sincerely, Karen RLRR

Homeless Princess

Princess is a female shep mix that lived with her family in Colorado for the past 8 years. She was loved and cared for by her mom and dad, but now, due to a series of bad luck and unemployment, the family is homeless.

Homelessness not only affects people, but also animals that are caught in the middle. The family made it to Red Lake and moved into the homeless shelter. They are looking for housing and the opportunities they are left with do not allow Princess to join them.

I picked up Princess yesterday, took her to the vet and had her spayed and vaccinated. She appears in very nice shape, but she is depressed due to losing her family.

I felt so bad to hear her crying as we drove away from the homeless shelter and really felt even more badly for her than the other reservation homeless strays, because she has a family that loves her and it tore out her little heart. Most of the homeless animals we rescue from the streets and dumps really have no human connection, so they are happy to come to the shelter, but Princess is grieving her family.

The good good news is that All Dog Rescue has a foster home for her so Princess only spent a few nights at the shelter before leaving on a transport on Mother's Day to her new home.

I am grateful for your support that allows us to help animals like Princess.

Sincerely, Karen

Challenging visits & transports in July

We are so thankful to have had Heidi volunteer on July 8 - 10th, and Lauren on July 15 - 17th. During their stay they took care of all the cats and dogs in spite of many challenges including high heat index, humidity, mosquitos and strong storms knocking out electrical power so that even the fan would not work in the cathouse.

MINIIn spite of all that both ladies are always positive and have a smile on their faces, and are so kind and caring to the animals. It is remarkable to see these young ladies so "together".

PRINCESSLauren took out Princess, Mario, and Pepito, 3 small breed dogs; one cat Jacques and a tiny kitten Mini that was not thriving in a litter of 5. Lauren fed her kitten milk and gave medication for eye and upper respiratory while visiting and could not bear to leave little Mini behind. Pet Haven has graciously approved Lauren to foster Mini until she gets adopted.

PRINCESSPrincess and Pepito went to Tricounty.

PEPITOPepito already has a deposit on him one day later. The Tricounty staff find the two adorable!

MARIOMario, pug/pom mix went to foster care with All Dog to Barbie.

LAURENThank you Heidi and Lauren for your great help.

Every rescued animal has a story...

A community member was at the garbage dump in Redby and a man came with his puppy that he was going to shoot. The community member told him not to shoot him and said she wanted him--so Pretty Boy Floyd was spared and came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue 3 days before the transport.

PRETTY BOY FLOYDHe is about 14 weeks old, about 15 lbs. and is very sweet. I checked him and he seems like he has been neutered, so perhaps he was at our March clinic. I am so sad the guy was just going to shoot him and throw him in the garbage. He left Saturday enroute to a foster home through St. Francis of Assissi.

TRANSPORT TRAILEROn Saturday, May 7 we had a major transport of 6 large dogs and 16 puppies all to foster care. Also, as a part of this transport, a large truck and trailer load of food was also picked up for delivery to the RLRR shelter.

TRANSPORT TEAMGeri and Karen met the O'Sullivans in Bemidji with the dogs and puppies where they were transferred to Tom's Pickup and also Nancy's car. Terry also came along to help.

TRANSPORT CREWKristin and Barbie met in Little Falls to take the precious canine cargo, and Eric from The Shed also met there with a load of donated food. Tom's truck and trailer were loaded full of much-needed food for Red Lake animals.

BATMANBatman, a pure bred German Shepherd, went with DeeDee to Second Hand Dog in Claremont.

TANNERWe are happy that Tanner is our first dog to be sent to RAGOM (Retrieve A Golden Of Minnesota).

SIX SHEP PUPS2 sheps went to Act V; 2 sheps went to MARS; 2 sheps went to Metro Mutts.

ROCRoc went to Pet Haven.

PRINCESSPrincess is a Australian shepherd mix that came injured from White Earth Reservation about 90 miles from RLRR. We had previously helped by getting Princess spayed, however now that Princess is injured the owner requested we take her because she has no way to get her medical care nor keep her safe. Princess was a model well-behaved quiet dog at the shelter during her brief stay. All Dog Rescue took her on May 7th into foster care.

JONASJonas had been at the shelter for some time and went to All Dog Rescue.

FOUR SHEP PUPS4 shep pups (Casey, Tara, Thor, Bella) went to TLC Canine Rescue.

HUSKY PUPS3 husky pups wer to MUSHR; 2 husky pups went to Secondhand Hounds.

SHAMUShamu was a very special needs boy that went to Liz, RLRR foster home. Shamu was neutered at our October 2010 clinic, and was since kept in a pen and developed some behaviors including jumping up on people and very hyper behavior. Being a very large dog he could easily knock people down. He is very friendly. The owner finally decided to surrender Shamu to RLRR where he spent a month. Thankfully, now Shamu will get one-to-one training and there will be hope for his adoption in the future.

It was a great relief to have the many dogs and puppies on to their new foster homes with a chance for a new life as well as getting the food supply not only for the shelter but for the many community people who come to the food shelf for pet kibble.
