Cotton happily adopted

Remember Cotton, the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue cat, that we called our million-dollar baby because of all the medical care she required? See earlier post HERE. We received a note and photos from her new home.

UPDATE:
We adopted Cotton on March 25th.  Here are some pictures of our happy boy.
Thank you for investing in him.

Happy Mother's Day: Adventures in fostering

Maime and her litter of two Easter kittens went to Pet Haven for foster care. We were pleased to receive an update on their adventures!
COTTON AND CLOVER
UPDATE FROM PET HAVEN:
Mama Maimie climbed up by the fuse box and hid her two tiny kittens into the rafters between the ceiling of the basement and the first floor! The foster family had to take down the ceiling tile to rescue the babies and they moved to Mary Ann for bottlefeeding.
MAIMIE AND HER BOYS
It took two days to catch Maimie in a trap and reunite the family. Everyone is VERY happy mom is feeding and caring for them again! They are all in a large kennel now at Mary Ann's until Maimie is really settled in. She was friendly, but scared when she arrived and it was thundering that weekend, too.
COTTON
Poor Maimie has a dull, thin, rough coat and the kittens have dull coats. She has probably had litter after litter in her 4 short years - at least that is what Karen was told for age. The boys are doing well; Cotton is at a normal weight for his age but is significantly smaller than Clover.
CLOVER
Maimie is a good mom and feeds them willingly and gives them baths. She’s doing well - likes to have her chin scratched, pet all the way down her back.

Always adventures!

Cotton: Our million dollar baby

Cotton came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue back on October 1st. What a mess this poor boy was in! Cotton is a Siamese flame point who came in with a severely infected eye, and an infection in his sinus that would not go away.
We were told that all of Cotton’s littermates died blind. We were concerned that Cotton may well also go blind. The vet made a decision to remove the infected eye, and we began a long treatment of his infected sinus area. We tried at least 4 different antibiotics, and the sneezing would return. We tested Cotton for Feline Leukemia, FIP, FIV and thankfully all were negative. But the problem persisted.
Finally Dr. Vickie ordered a special antibiotic which we purchased at the Bemidji Pharmacy which seemed to finally be effective. We also purchased some special vitamin drops and took Cotton to the vet for a series of shots that would boost his immune system. We began to call him our "Million Dollar Baby" as he has cost a considerable sum with all his medical treatments, but we feel he was worth every penny.
We never gave up on this boy as he was so special. He had a wonderful personality and loved people, other cats, dogs and puppies too! Every time we had a visitor at the cathouse he was the welcome wagon! He had to hug and kiss all humans who entered his house.

At one point we were thinking that Cotton would have to remain at RLRR shelter- but recently he started sitting by the door and has managed to escape outdoors 2 times! With his outgoing personality we were fearful that he would get out and affectionately approach a shelter dog not accustomed to cats and get killed.

Cotton left RLRR on March 2 headed to Twin Cities Pet Rescue. He is a one-of-a-kind cat and will be a great pet for someone! Thank you to all who support our Red Lake Rosie medical fund allowing us the opportunity to get Cotton on the road to recovery!

Sincerely, Karen

Pi, Popeye and Paris

POPEYE AND PI
The second litter of 3 came in to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue with their mother Pippa during the Leech Lake Puppy Roundup. They were all malnourished and had demodex mange. This little family was abandoned for many days in a house with no food or water.
PARIS
We were happy to care for them for a week in the cathouse. They had good food, water, warmth, and the kind care of Geri. They made friends with Echo and Edda, the other litter and we were sad to see them leave- but happy also that they are going to the great care of Jean Rice of Carver Scott Humane Society.
They loved Cotton the white one-eyed cat who romped with them!
Thank you to Leech Lake Legacy for letting us take the pups, Geri for their great care for the week, and to TLC's Bob & Lisa and Jean Rice of Carver Scott for the great foster homes they provide.
