Annabelle: Freedom rider

We have a great sequel to Annabelle's story.  She was a very happy girl at the shelter and healing well. 

She was spayed on Tuesday and left on Saturday to spend a few nights at Nancy

Blanck's and then on to All Dog Rescue on the 11th. Tis is a great Independence Day story!

NOTE FROM DENISE:

I had the pleasure of meeting Annabelle when I picked up a couple of cats for Feline Rescue from the transport on Saturday. She was smaller than I expected and I was told she might be as young as six months. She was very sweet and the dull look of pain is gone from her bright happy eyes.

I received a card with several photos of some feral cats which we placed through Jodi three years ago. Of course, they were all neutered or spayed before they went to the barn.

Jodi's co-worker Mary gives great care to her feral cats. Aren't they beautiful? They are well fed and kept warm. They even seem to like posing for the camera!

We are happy when we find a place that treats feral cats humanely as so many suffer in this area in the cold and are not fed.

Freedom for Annabelle

Late this Friday afternoon Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call that someone had a dog that they wanted us to pick up. Unfortunately, the dog was located on the far side of the reservation, which meant a long drive there, then to the vet and then back to the shelter. The weather was not cooperating; it was windy and raining.

It was poor timing and there was no negotiating with the owner on meeting us halfway. So Kevin and I began our journey to find a sweet little girl we named Annabelle.

We found her with a chain around her neck that had grown in. The smell of  infection made us sick to our stomaches. But Annabelle, in spite of her suffering, was wagging her tail and making the best of her situation. She was loaded with hundreds of ticks and had sores from the chain and the ticks all over her body.

We were so happy when she was freed from the chain at the vet and the wounds were cleaned. We washed out her ears and picked off many ticks.

Dr. Danielle did a great job and we knew that Annabelle will be a very happy girl when she wakes up freed from the horrible chain that had been hurting her for months. We were so thankful to learn that she was negative for lymes, heartworm, and anaplasmosis.

We got home 4 hours later and felt that not a minute was wasted!

Thank you to the supporters of Red lake animals that help us provide emergency medical care for animals such as dear Annabelle. We are hoping a rescue will take her real soon and we know they will not regret having her.

Willie's Story

Meet Willie. He was blessed enough to get a foster home at the last clinic. He was brought to the June clinic to get neutered from the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue shelter and there someone noticed this very sweet boy and offered to take him.

WILLIE

Willie had been at the shelter for about 2 months getting treatment for his mange. Willie and Wonka, were littermates that came in with severe demodex mange and it took a long time to get over it. Wonka is slowly improving and is still at the shelter. These two boys were rescued by Nancy O'Sullivan.

The first night at the clinic warehouse Willie and a friend escaped from their kennels and had a party at the warehouse. They raided the kitchen and ate cookies, and set off the security alarm at 4:00 am.!!

WILLIE'S FOSTER MOM WRITES:
I just wanted to let you know that Willie is fitting in and is a great match for our home! 

He's super quiet and laid back and loves playing with our other three dogs, I think he may be too attached to the couch though ;)

He and McKinley are truly treasures in our home :)

MCKINLEY

The young girl Aurelia and her family are the volunteers who took Willie. They had previously adopted McKinley from Tricounty Humane Society. McKinley also came from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Aurelia and her mother were very hard workers at the clinic recently. Having McKinley from Red Lake motivated them to come and volunteer.

We appreciate the great clinic volunteers who do such a nice job. Without them there could be no clinics.

Jenna arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue very pregnant. We were lucky to come up with a foster home for her at this busy time of the year with Kathy through ACT V.

NOTES FROM ACT V ON FACEBOOK:

Awwww... Look at THIS sweet face. Jenna arrived yesterday purring and snuggling fresh out of the carrier. She's a petite peanut weighing in at 7.7 lbs (pregnant!). Anyway, Kathy swept her up and settled her into her foster home. Kathy said she ate like a horse...! All is well.

NOTE FROM FOSTER MOM:

Two different comfy beds, and she picks the scratching post.  That is where she is every time I check on her.

She is so sweet.  Brushing her a lot, and she loves to snuggle.  No babies, yet.

There are two solid gray kittens, two solid black and one gray with white markings like Jenna. Unfortunately, one of the solid gray kittens, Bernadette, stopped eating and died at about one week of age, despite all best efforts for her. Rest in peace, Baby B.

NOTE FROM FOSTER MOM:

Kittens are doing good. Gaining weight and growing. Howard is about twice as big as the others. I'm wondering if daddy was a big boy. Eyes are almost open.

Everything's coming up roses for Dixie

DIXIE NOW

At the end of May the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue van made a trip to Red Lake to drop food and also pick up unwanted animals. That day I saw a young little female shep that broke my heart. She was very hungry and had a broken front leg. You could tell it was an old wound as her leg had healed crooked.

She had no collar and it was apparent that no one cared for her, so I picked her up. I named her Dixie and she went to the RLRR shelter that day.

Thankfully when Dr. Vicki came up on Memorial Day, she took Dixie back to Act V Rescue where Dixie got surgery for her leg and now has a chance for a good life. She rode out with Dr. Vickie and Lauren that day and never looked back!

UPDATE FROM ACT V:

This is a nasty break. She's lyme positive and scabies too.Dixie's leg surgery was 1 1/2 hours long by a board certified surgeon. He got her leg straightened our almost 100%!  

She should do really well. I would estimate her now at 1 1/2 yrs old. Dr. Murphy did an amazing job and I followed up doing the spay.

Dixie is settled in her foster home. She's doing very well - a little drugged ( ) adapting to life inside, on pain meds, post spay, post fracture, wearing a cone AND we've introduced a crate. Whew! Lot's of changes. She's living with a new group of dogs (and strangers) but all in all, it's going fine! One day at a time.

Hi, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue! We were lucky enough to have June Bug adopt us a few years ago. We know that she was rescued by you on June 9, 2009 and since we don't know her real birthday, we've been using that date as her "rebirth day". A couple of years have passed and we thought you might like to hear how she's doing.

June Bug has finally graduated out of "puppy energy" status to "just really strong" dog status within the last year or so. She's very popular with a couple of other dogs in the neighborhood and they regularly come over for several hours of play in our backyard. At night, she likes to sleep in our bed and when the lights go out she hops down and wanders into her crate.

She's been very healthy and she adores puppies and kids. Maybe that's because she had 11 puppies herself in the car on the way to Wisconsin! (See first blog post here and others by searching for "junebug")

Overall, she's just a great dog!

Thanks again for all your hard work (and ARVSS!) and for giving us the opportunity to meet the very beautiful Ms. June Bug!
