A year after nightmare, Jacob's dream comes true

It is a very special day for Jacob the pitbull whose rescue by Red Lake Rosie's generated lots of interest and support. What a difference a year can make!

One year ago, February 16, 2014, was a very bleak day for Jacob.

Found mutilated, lying next to a blood-spattered wall, Jacob, we believe, had lain here in a fetal position in the snow and ice for about 12 hours just clinging unto life’s thread. The original post about Jacob was by far the most read for this blog:

JACOB AFTER INITIAL TREATMENT
Jacob spent the next 9 months at the Red Lake Rosie’s shelter and was supported by friends and Howard Goldman of Humane Society of United States to receive medical care and attempted legal action to identify and prosecute his abusers.

Now one year later these memories are far from Jacob’s mind.

JACOB AND CHRIS RELAXIN' TOGETHER
Jacob enjoys a full life in a comfortable indoor home with his new best friend Chris. Today his adoption is final after a 90-day trial foster-to-adopt period. Both Chris and Jacob passed with flying colors. To commemorate the day, a beautiful coat and new bed was presented to Jacob provided by friends of Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue.

NEW BED AND MORE COATS FOR JACOB
We are so happy that Jacob no longer has to live in a kennel waiting and hoping someday for his forever home.

Chris chose a pitbull and said “the pitbull is a misunderstood breed. I know because I lived with one for 10 years." Chris was referring to Inini (which means “Man” in Ojibwe language) the family pitbull that recently passed due to cancer. “You know the day that I picked up Inini’s remains at the vet was the same day Jacob arrived”, said Chris. “I know it was meant to be for Jacob and I to be partners. He sleeps with me, goes for walks with me and brings great joy to our home.”

In the past 3 months since Jacob arrived in Chris’s home, he has become loved by all that meet him. Jacob is fun-loving and affectionate. Jacob has a special place in the hearts of Chris's brother, mother, and grandmother. Grandmother shares the chicken soup that she makes with Jacob.

JACOB AND HIS BONE
It is a very happy day for all of us. Thank you to Howard Goldman, and all the supporters of the Jacob fund. Also to Nancy O'Sullivan who shuttles Jacob and Chris to the vet as needed. We wanted to share the joy of his new life with all of you.

Sincerely, Karen Good

  1. Very heartwarming story. Thanks so much for the update. I've been wondering for a long time. They both look like they are meant to be together they look so comfortable, content and happy.
