Saving Sage

It was a very sad Friday night, April 27th, as a puppy, Sage 3 months old, was brought to the shelter.

We had been hearing about this little one for some time with a severe neck injury at Circle Pines Housing in Red Lake, but no one brought it in and then it would wander off when Polly went to look for it.

Finally, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue offered a $30.00 reward and we got the dog late that night! Sasheanna, a very nice girl, brought Sage here and saved her life! The condition of this pup was painful to see and we wondered how she survived so long!

;According to the vet, a rubber hairband was put on the puppy's neck, probably weeks ago, and it had eaten into the neck. It was rotting by the time Sage arrived here.

Thankfully, Sage had the band removed and she stayed at the Clearwater vet hospital on IV for fluids and antibiotcs for the weekend.

I know the photos are graphic, but it is important to share them for two reasons. First, to educate the public about how such a simple act forgotten can torture and ultimately kill an animal. Second, to let our supporters know that these are the kinds of emergency medical situations that come in to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Sage needed to see a vet immediately even though we had to pay the extra costs for the evening and weekend. Your donations allow us to do the best we can for these animals in need. Thank you for saving her life!

I am so happy to report that Act V Rescue & Rehabilitation has agreed to take Sage. We know she will receive wonderful care with them.

Once again a big THANK YOU our supporters who provide funds for emergency medical and the great rescuers and transporters who helped Sage to relieve her suffering and give her hope for the future.

You all continue to amaze me with all the lives you save and improve - animals AND human! Keep up all the great work you do. Sadly, I don't think you'll ever be out of a job there.
