Emma is happy in her new home

FROM PET HAVEN'S DOG BLOG:

Ella, aka Emma aka LuWanda, is a medium-sized, mixed breed dog who came from Red Lake with her sister Lola. They were said to be German Shepherd mixes, but looking at Ella's recent pictures and knowing that she weighs 29 pounds at eight months of age -- let's just say that we're skeptical.

Here's a brief update from her new mom:

She LOVES playing in the snow and playing with all her toys. We took her to the vet yesterday and they said she is perfectly healthy and has already grown to 29lbs.! We are excited to take her home to Iowa over Christmas so she can meet the rest of our families.

Luwanda/Emma finds a home

Remember the little puppies Wanda & LuWanda? They went from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in August to Pet Haven and became Lola & Emma.

HERE'S EMMA!NOTE ON PET HAVEN'S DOG BLOG:
Our girl from Red Lake Rosie's, Emma, went home on Saturday, too! She will have a big fenced yard to play in and two doting parents. Emma recently started Obedience class at The Canine Coach. Her new mom and dad are planning to help her finish the course. Little Emma is only seven months old, so she still has some growing and learning to do. Her forever home is a great place do to it in.

Wanda/Luwanda now Lola/Emma

Remember Wanda & Luwanda? Check out their new names and new video!

FROM PET HAVEN'S DOG BLOG:
Meet Lola and Emma!

Both these pups came to Pet Haven from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue ... Bart (who was featured on an earlier post) also came from Red Lake Rosie's. One of the things we have come to realize is that the Red Lake dogs are truly mutts of mutts. We never know what mix of breed they are. Often your guess is as good as our's :) Many of us took stabs at guessing Bart's breed when he arrived, and his new mom ended up getting a DNA test ... well, no surprise, we were all wrong!! :)

So ... to answer your question of what breed are Emma and Lola. Well, we're told they are shepherd mixes. They probably do have some shepherd in them, but the beautiful thing about these Red Lake dogs is that they are mixed with who knows what ... and it's often a pleasant surprise! One thing is for sure though, they are adorable. And in the words of their foster mom: "they both rate 10 on the scale."

Their foster mom goes on to say, "Emma is a toe biter so we have to watch our feet. Both are fearless and explored the entire back yard in the first five minutes. They can really run fast on those short legs."

Both pups have been spayed and have had their second round of shots so are up for adoption.

LOLAAnd more from foster mom:
"Lola 6 pounds, brown/black female. She chases the cats so don't know if a home with cats is a good idea. Lola loves people, gets along great with my grandson and is friendly with our other dogs. She is extremely playful and feisty. Lola loves to play tug of war and chase small stuffed animals. When she is sleepy she enjoys cuddling.

EMMAEmma, 7 pounds, gold female. Emma doesn't like our cats and even bit poor Taz in the face (he is our most docile cat). Emma loves to chase. Whether it be stuffed animals, her sister Lola or us, running around the backyard is a favorite activity. Emma is very playful and friendly. She also gets along great with our other dogs, small children and adults. She loves to be held and cuddled like a baby."

Arial, the sweetest pit mom, is now Emma

Back in August 2008 when HSUS/RAVS (Humane Society of the United States - Rural Area Vet Services) was at Red Lake for a weeklong spay/neuter clinic, a brindle and white pit-mix dog and her many tiny puppies came in with no owner to take responsibility for them.
We called her Arial and she impressed everyone with her kind and gentle manner even in a kennel with her pups and dozens of barking dogs all around. We were so happy when one of the Ravs volunteers, Sue, took the family home with her to Illinois.

All updates have been positive. The pups are all adopted and Arial, now Emma, has been restored to health. Sue wants to especially thank Carol of Red Lake who rescued Emma and her pups and brought them to the clinic.
Sue says:
Hi Karen,
I was wondering if you could give me the contact info for Carol. I would like to get in touch with her and thank her for picking Emma and her puppies up from the housing complex last July. I have a really cute picture of Emma with Santa that I will email you. She should be an ambassador for her breed! She loves everything and everyone. Thank you so much for giving us this wonderful dog!!!
SueCarol responds:
I'm glad to hear that Emma has a home where you are so enthusiastic about her! I remember I had to crawl on my stomach under a low porch to retrieve the last of her puppies. I'd love to see a picture of her as a healthy and happy pet. Do you know where her puppies ended up? Thanks for taking a chance on her. I've met some wonderful, loving pit bulls while doing rescue. I wish more people could have that type of experience with the breed and realize that it is the owners who are the problem with the vicious ones. Take care,
CarolFROM EMMA'S NEW FAMILY:
We love Emma! She has an elf hat on in one of the pictures. Christmas is her favorite Holiday.... so far anyway!
