Another year has flown by, and we would like to wish you a safe, warm and Happy Holiday season and update you on my Red Lake pups - Phoenix, Dylan, Casey & Apollo.
UDPATE FROM ADOPTERS:
Phoenix (aka Cinnamon) still thinks Casey and Dylan are her kids. She plays with them constantly, but still needs to occasionally discipline Casey since he sometimes gets too excited. She’s a great mom – I remember she had puppies when you found her and how good she took care of them. She is quite smart too – she picks up on things very quickly. When Casey, Dylan and her are “talking” to our neighbors dogs, we’ll call her & she stops immediately and comes running over to us. (Unlike her 2 “sons”, who aren’t quite as willing to stop visiting!) Her tail is always held high and she looks so happy. She is quite a sweetheart and loves to “hug”. My heart melts whenever she does that – I can feel how relaxed and content she is. She is my little girl – all the other dogs are boys! She is truly amazing. I can’t believe she’s 6 years old already!
Dylan is doing extremely well – he still goes to the Chiropractor every 6 months, but it’s more of a checkup and preventative than anything else. He’s been paralyzed twice – we are always very careful. He still runs all over the place and loves to play with Phoenix and harass Casey! One of his nicknames is “Prince Dylan”, since he is so prim and proper and can look so regal. He recently went to a Nursing Home in my hometown & the people loved him. He is so outgoing. He can be quite the tease though – he really seems to enjoy picking on Casey. When they are playing outside, he’ll grab Casey’s collar so Phoenix can come and harass him. I don’t know where he learned how to hold on to another dogs collar, but he’s pretty good at it! Then when he lets go, he runs like the wind to stay away from Casey. You can almost see him laughing! He plays with Phoenix, but not in the same way. It’s very much 2 brothers playing. He has quite the personality and looks – we are so fortunate to have him. Can he be 5 years old already?
Casey (aka Eddie) is doing great. He still loves to carry toys in his mouth – his favorite is an indestructible blue and yellow lizard! He hasn’t been able to pull out the squeezers yet (unfortunately)! If we sleep in on the weekends, he will start to play with it & the squeaking will wake us up! It’s much better than any alarm clock – he’s always so happy! He is doing very well – he has a “wiggle butt” that wags his whole body when he’s happy or is playing with Phoenix. The only problem with his wiggle butt is his tail is very powerful – and we always have to be careful he isn’t close to anything that may break! He has a very distinct howl – like a train whistle. We have almost trained him to howl on command! It is quite unique and we think very beautiful. His “official” name is “Casey Jones”, after a train engineer character. He surely fits his name! He will always be my little baby – even though he’s already 3 years old!
Apollo is the white Shepherd in the picture (yawning with boredom!). He was also a rescue, but did not come from Red Lake. He is such a sweetheart and loves to be with the other dogs. He has the beginnings of Degenerative Myelopathy, and needs help walking now. The other dogs are so patient when I get his harness on and walk with him. He uses a wheelchair, but that’s been put away until the weather gets warmer. He especially loves to follow Phoenix and Dylan around the yard (with me in tow!). Dylan has become very close to Apollo – he won’t go in the house or outside unless Apollo is ready. It’s very touching. Apollo is 12 years old this year!
Thank you Karen and everyone at Red Lake for helping these kids and all the precious animals in need at Red Lake. Your dedication and commitment is quite remarkable. I love these kids beyond words – thank you for saving them. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Take Care,
Love,
T & C
