Six miniature horses were rescued and sent to a Miniature
Horse Rescue on Saturday, June 8th. This
rescue was organized and facilitated by ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation of Bloomington, MN, and Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.
The owner was unable to provide adequate food and care
for the horses. We are happy they now
have hope for a bright future.
The horses are all settled in. It rained here all day
yesterday so pen is a bit muddy but dry on one side now.
They got wormed today
and will slowly start a feed pail. The paint horse is a bit of concern to me as she is
wobbly and unstable and will take to vet as soon as possible. It appears that she had a HUGE wood tick
on her eyelid but it is a pussy mess. The eyelid is ripped and just dangling
in front of her eye. I think it has been that way a while as it is not bloody. It almost looks healed but is infected as the pus is draining.
The others are
very thin under that winter coat that has still not shed due to poor nutrition
and most likely worm overload. I notice the stud colt and filly are still
nursing on the mares so I will be weaning them in a few days after everyone is
a bit more settled. The mares cannot recover with those yearlings on them.
Everyone will be looking great in no time hopefully and we will get the colt
gelded and that eye looked at this week ASAP. That is my update for now.
More pics to follow.
Thank you for helping Red Lake animals and those in the surrounding
area! Karen :_)
ANOTHER UPDATE FROM RESCUE:
The horses are on the mend now.
The paint went to vet today and he said the eyelid tear is at least 7-10 days
old but was able to sew it back on. We will see what happens. The colt got gelded today as well.
The colt did this yesterday while getting shaved. All the
white strings are worms!
