The Red Lake Housing was remodeling a vacant home in Redby, and a call came that when the people moved they left behind Laser, Sammy, and a litter of puppies. The whole family was hungry, infected with mange and had no means of support.
NOLA & NELLACarol and I dropped food and on first visit were able to catch 2 puppies. We were told one had died the night before we arrived. We named the puppies Nola and Nella. Sammy and Laser were too shy to be caught at that time, so we would dump food and dose the food with ivermectin so we could get a start on the healing of the mange.
NOLA & NELLANola and Nella spent about 3 weeks getting good food and mange treatment. Both developed rickets on the front legs, but responded well to treatment.
We continued to drop medicated food for Sammy and Laser in the weeks to follow.
On March 3rd during the Akin clinic, Carol and Nate went out and were able to catch both Sammy and Laser. What a happy day! We now had the entire family in our care.
SAMMYBoth Sammy and Laser got over their fear and recovered nicely, both were altered and all have moved on.
LASERLaser went to Tricounty and has been adopted and the two surviving pups, Nola and Nella went to Twin City Pet Rescue. Sammy was the last to leave on 25th enroute to Second hand Dogs in Claremont where many of our shepherds go.
We don't often get this lucky, but are so happy with the outcome. A special thank you to Carol and Nate for getting the most difficult ones!
