Fourth of July fireworks at RLRR

The morning of July 4th turned out to be no ordinary day at Red lake
Rosie's- no, not one filled with fireworks, but a early morning greeting of 2 dogs, Neena and Smiley, each with a faceful of porcupine quills!

Neena was quite cooperative and readily submitted to a traquilizer so Karen was able to pull all the quills, and there were hundreds in her face, mouth and paws. Neena slept peacefully for about 2 hours and then was fine.

NEENASmiley, on the other hand, chose to hide for the morning and did not show up for his treatment until the evening. By then he too submitted to the tranquilizer and got all his quills pulled.

Both were tucked in a kennel and happy after that episode was over.We only hope they learned a lesson.

Porcupine quills are a top hazard in northern Minnesota summer and fall seasons. We get regular calls for animals in distress with quills.

SMILEY & NEENA AFTER QUILL REMOVALNeena went to the shepherd rescue, Second Hand Hounds and Smiley just left for Pet Haven.

Lucky dogs!

Karen
