Karen and Geri answered a call to help a husky that had been shot 5 days ago. She was running 102.5 degrees temp and had a foul-smelling discharge from a large exit wound about the size of a baseball in her chest from a high-powered rifle. She did not look very good at all.
THANKING VETWe took her to the local vet who determined no organs were hit, and the bullet only grazed her front leg - so no bone was hit either.
TRANQUILIZED AND SHAVEDThe vet shaved, cleaned the wound, gave penicillin injection, rimadyl injection, and put her on 375 mg of Clavamox 2x per day. She instructed me to squirt 30 mL of peroxide in the wound 2 times per day.
ENTRANCE WOUNDSo--she was up and around only 1 hour after the vet had tranquilized her and seems remarkably well, I cannot imagine having a large wound on my chest and walking around like all was well.
EXIT WOUNDShe spent a week at Red Lake Rosie's then was transferred to Dr. Vickie at Act V along with a little lab Dobie on May 21st. Barbara Olson was the transporter.
AFTER VETThank you all for helping this girl. Our vet costs are very high to treat the injured animals we receive. Please donate if you can.

Sweet Lita......another brave little girl. Thank you Karen and
ReplyDeleteGeri for this great rescue, and for
the fantastic medical care! Please
keep us updated.
I'm guessing that someone tried to kill her when she went into heat and started attracting dogs to their home - instead of having her spayed at the free clinic .... Anger issues come up for me when I see these things, so I'll stop right there. So glad this sweet girl was found, treated and is on her way to a good home! Thank you, Barb, for transporting her! ^_^
