Can you sew? Volunteer opportunity for RLRR

Fabrics Available to Make Winter Coats & Snuggles for Rescued Animals at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Are you a seamstress or do you know of one?

I have some fabric set aside to make winter coats and pet snuggles for the dogs and cats at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. With August now upon us, the cold winter months aren't far away. The winter conditions in Northern Minnesota are very hard on the animals and the people. It is my hope that we can make a big difference this year by turning these fabrics into warm coats and bedding.

How does this work?

Volunteers are needed to make one, two or more dog coats, snuggle blankets or other useful items. There are a number of free patterns available on-line, especially for blankets and other bedding. If anyone has time to make several dog coats, I'll donate one of the patterns I purchased so you'll have different styles and sizes.

The fabrics include wool, wool blends, corduroy, and more in a variety of colors and sizes. This is an opportunity to turn manmade and animal derived products otherwise deemed unusable into much needed supplies for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

How did this come about?

Last winter I helped Mid Hudson Animal Aid, a cat sanctuary in Beacon, New York raise funds for a wounded kitten and other felines at the sanctuary. When the board president learned of the availability of some fabric samples, she connected me with Ruperto Ruiz of Larry & Paolo in New York, NY. This business donates the fabric samples to support people and animals in need. In February, Ruperto began shipping these high quality fabric samples from Italy to Minnesota. I distribute the fabrics to help animals in need.

Through my correspondence with Karen Good, I learned about the need for warm dog sweaters, coats and bedding in general. There is now enough fabric suitable for this purpose to distribute to volunteers able to make one, two or more items for the rescue.

What is the next step?

If you have questions or wish to volunteer, please send an e-mail to blog@redlakerosie.org.
